Michael Hatte
Hey Guys ive just recently moved down south and im after a few fishing spots closer to home, i was in the national park on sunday and drove over the weir at Audley there were a heap of people fishing the salt side but i was wondering if anyone has been up the fresh side to fish for bass during summer. I have heard of people Catching Ep's up there around the weir but never much on Bass Reports from the area. Am i better off sticking to Nepean and upper Georges Or is the the National Park worth a shot. Mick
gje
Hey Mick, Not sure if your allowd to fish the fresh water side of the weir. Never heard of anybody doing it and maybe you should check with National Parks & Wildlife. I'm sure there are bass up there as they were planning on putting in a fish ladder several years ago at the weir to help there migration to the salt for spawning. Cheers, Scoop PS. Depends on what type of fishing your into. The Port, Georges River & Botany Bay are all good. Can you specify what your into. Stippy
Keen to know the verdict on this as well Mick, After my exams are out of the way I plan on spending some time at Tallowa Dam and the Shoalhaven River chasing bass but it'd be nice to know there's something closer to home. Cheers, Adam.
gje
Also forgot to mention that they get bass & ep's up the top of the Woronora River near the "Needles". The bass are only small & few & far between fish. better size ep's down towards the old road bridge at the Woronora river. Cheers, Scoop
Mr Rob
Hi Mick I spent some time in that area as a youngster and herd many roomers of bass and even eastern cod. The only thing we could catch were eels and cat fish. We put our kayaks in and had a good look around and from memory the fork the goes northwest ish has some great deep rocky holes that look very fishy. I always dreamt of pulling out that Cod one day. Ha Ha Even if you don’t catch a fish it is a nice place to explore and if your keen you can walk out to Heathcote.(check google earth) That cod roomer came from a local ranger about 17 years ago so you never know. I would love to know if there is any truth to this but it was always the inspiration to go a little further and put in a few more casts. Keep us posted Rob
gobbledock
The old fella doing the kayak hire showed me pics of some bass he pulled out of the fresh water side a good 50cm specimen. He said there in their but not in big numbers
zook2001
Sadly the fishway has never been finished, they just couldn't find a solid base to complete the cement work within budget.National Parks certainly don't have authority to stop you fishing there despite what they say although I've never felt it was worth pressing the issue. Slightly further north the Woranora a better option if you can find a parking spot the fish are there as long as you can bash you way through the bush
