Ken A Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Finally got a short break in the weather this afternoon I left home & it was raining & blowing but during the 2 minute drive & 5 minute wade to the spot the wind died away to 5 knots & the rain stopped. It was an omen First cast my Ecogear SX-40 got smacked by a nice Bream as soon as I commenced retrieving & it turned out to be a nice fish of 35cm. Over the next hour I managed another 6 Bream all between 28 & 32cm. I was pretty happy with that result & decided to move down the channel to an area where the current is stronger & its a bit shallower. It turned out to be a good move as i took fish on each of my first 5 casts The best was around the 35cm mark. The wind started picking up again making casting difficult but it didn't affect the fish at all I changed to an orange SX-48 & I took another 9 fish between 26 & 32cm. Finished up with a total of 21 Bream in 2.5 hours. All taken on SX-40's & 48's with one exception taken on a Bennet Merlin. For mine the SX-40 is King I kept 4 fish for the table & released the rest. It was bloody great to get a decent session in after the crappy conditions here lately
Guest Jocool Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Good going Ken. Is this the turn-around? Does it keep getting better now? Or is it still yoo early to say?
Lightweight Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Nice effort, must be just rewards for sitting out for so many weeks enduring that crap-ass weather you have had... And i bet the Bream will taste even better this time around. LW
Ken A Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 They will be around for a few months now so be ready to be bored with my "pre brekky" sessions & "pre beer" sessions I'm actually drinking a Muldoons while I type so that was "pre beer" session
Guest Jocool Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 so be ready to be bored with my "pre brekky" sessions & "pre beer" sessions 46773 Would you like me to remind you WHY we all subscribe to Fishraider Ken???? We all need a fishing fix. Regardless of how we get it!
knapers Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Lucky Bastard Ken ... Well done mate, nice feed as well
Narralakes Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Good going Ken, persistency pays off again, thats a hot fishing session.
Sputnik Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Agree with you about the SX40s, Ken - you've got to love their consistency. Have you tried any of the new colours yet? If you have, are there any new favourites?
Sputnik Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Where'd you get the new colours? I only just heard about them and I want them! 46880 I tell you, the lad's got too much tackle... Swoff, weren't those the new colours that you picked up about 3 gross of the other day?
Ken A Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 Sputnik I haven't been able to get the new colours yet my local shop only has the usual ones. I take fish on all the available colours but when the fish are picky here the 306 seems to do a bit better than the others. I tried several other types of HB's yesterday seeing there was plenty of Bream about & got a few small fish & a few bumps. As soon as I went back to an SX-40 or 48 I started nailing them. I put it down to the action more than the colours myself. I used 5 colours yesterday ( gold, orange, clear, green, yellow) & all took fish with no particular colour ahead of the rest. I think the SX-40 is head & shoulders above other HB's for Bream & over the next few weeks I'm going to continue fishing other brands as well & see what results I get. Last year the SX-40 outfished all other by 3 to 1 on average & the only thing that came close to it was the trusty jointed Rapala minnow (50mm) which unfortunately aren't available here anymore. After the Eco's & the Rapala came all the popular "hot" bream lures which all took fish. If there is a better Bream lure than an SX-40 I would like to hear about it
Sputnik Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Have you managed to give a run to any of the Juro Pygmies yet, Ken? They're supposed to be a dead ringer for the SX40 - but at a much lower price. I haven't fished with them yet, so just wondered what they were like.
Ken A Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 I haven't seem them around at all. I'm a dyed in the wool Ecogear man & where I fish I rarely lose a lure so price isn't a problem. I went around this morning before brekky & got 2 nice fish before the current stopped running & checked out a couple interesting looking areas a bit further down which I think will hold some fish also. Come on 1.00pm & the runout tide
