Jay, I'm hearing you, ya gotta realize with fishing you will just be chasing your tail until you can learn from someone with the knowledge. Go on a charter, or go to Scotty Lyons fishin school, it's well worth it.

There could be lots of reasons you are not catching much. In my experience, if you have live bait or very fresh bait, fish the tides to suit your target species & use the lightest lines possible you should be onto the fish. It also helps to know the area & make sure you are fishing where the fish are. Lures are effective but you need to apply a lot of thought as to what to use for the fish you are after. It may pay to join a club or ask some more questions on this site. Good luck, it will happen.

Cheers,

Scoop

hhmm yeh fishing is no stranger to me i know what im doin but seem to have bad luck witht he fish lol ive been fishing since i was like 4 im now 25 i swear gettin unluckier as i get older haha

I feel ya pain mate. But that's fishing, I sometimes drive 2 hours up north and fish all night then come home with nothing. If you've been fishing since you were four then I am pretty sure you have alot of knowledge and experience. There have been many occasions where I don't catch anything. But it only makes me frustrated and I want to keep fishing until I catch something decent. What shits me the most is when everyone around me is hooking up and I am just standing there watching.

Keep pushing on and I guarantee you will succeed. Good luck with it anyway

Yeah good advice mate, we did this too with a charter and the info gained was invalueable, you must know someone that fishes a fair bit, get him or her out in your boat and learn as much as poss and eventually you will be out there catching a few..

I feel your pain. I fish landbased all year round (yep thats me out there in the wind and rain in the middle of winter). Getting out of bed at ridiculous hours of the morning on my days off. And 97.5% of the time I come home empty handed. But then I will have that one session that goes off. And I'll be doing nothing different. Then all is forgotten and the bug is back bigger than ever. Keep at it. The law of averages says your day is coming. Plus it's summer. :)

Hey mate if you are fishing the hawkesbury river this DVD i found on youtube may help you find the likely fishing spots. The DVD is in 7 10 minute parts so just go through them all. It was pretty interesting in that it tells you where to fish and what rig / bait to use. Bit dated though but it should give you a good start.

Try trolling along thr heads with some minnows, skirts and slugs ur bound to catch tailors, salmon, bonnies and the odd king. Also always get ur crew and ur self to keep there eyes on the water and for birds which could lead u to a school of fish on the surface.

Havin a variety of gear ready for the different styles of fishing on the boat could help alot. Eg. Bait jig rod, squid rod, live bait rod, trolling rod. Saves alot of time settin them up when they pop out of no where.

At the end of the day u gota target a certin species with abit of reading and research on the www u can't be to far away from landing them. I've had my boat for 5 yrs but the first 2 yrs had very long hrs and days of comin home empty. Now days I have at least 2 fish :P.

For the vast majority of my fishing life, I never really paid any attention to detail like the size of my hook and sinker, bait, the environment etc. I would just put a prawn on the hook and chuck it in, and take what-ever come my way. Which meant I caught next to nothing.

I really think you need to read as much as you can on the art of fishing, and go fishing with somebody who knows what they are doing. Have a think about what you want to do, and what’s the best way to achieve it.

I’m now getting too old to play footy or go to the gym, so fishing is the go. I’m pushing myself to learn more about the art of fishing, and with some small success.

Good luck.
