NickF
We are buying a boat with a 175HP Mariner Magnum EFI motor. Does anybody have experience with this model? It's a 1994 model. Have seen it running everything looks great but all outboards have their quirks. Currently it has a Mercury Vengeance 21P prop on it and hits 5600rpm. Forward and reverse engage smoothly and it isn't smokey. Look forward to any feedback or advice.
a boat
Hi, we have sold and serviced many of these 2.5L EFI Mercs/Mariners over the years and they are still made today. In my opinion they will go down in history as one of the great powerplants and in the hands of Merc racing that 2.5L block will do over 280HP and rev very high so at 175HP and below 6K RPM she is very relaxed. That said, as with any second hand outboard no matter what brand, a thourgh check-over by someone who knows what they are doing is advisable before you purchase that engine but they are not know for alot of problems and they are strong, well mannered for a drity engine, and using the good oil and fuel and with some regular maitainance she will last a long time. Cheers, Huey.

a boat
Hi Mate, sorry but due to last week before Xmas break we are full up and I would only have time to do a water pump service and check over. The injectors, which I doubt would need cleaning anyway if the boat performed well and revved to about 5600 at WOT, have to be sent out and that takes longer then we have till we shut till the new year. Give me a call on 9456-1444 and I can see if I can fit you in and Wednesday would suit us the best. Cheers, Huey.
