Penguin
Hi everyone, Went out on Wed with a mate and a couple of youngsters out onto the harbour. We started around 8am and got some yakkas at Balmoral, had a doz yakkas in the tank in no time. We then went to North head and set our downriggers and made a course for Bluefish pt. We went up and down a couple of times losing 6 yakkas in the process for not one fish boated, we did manage to see one King which won its freedom due to my sons inexperience. We boated a heap of Bonnies on a surface trolled skirt, they were thick and we just bought them into the boat while we were still downrigging. The boys were starting to feel a bit sick so we went back into the Harb and anchored up at CG. Didn't catch much apart from more bonnies and a flattie, We had some Kings come by and were attacking my cheese and salami half sandwich that I discarded and was floating on the surface. Threw pillie cubes and peeled prawns at them, and even a live yakka but they were not interested, they only wanted my sandwich. I then tossed out and unweighted piece of bread and I was onto a king instantly. I got him boatside a 70ish cm model. He had 5 or 6 mates with him so I kept him in the water to keep his mates close and see if we can get another hook up. Bad move as my 12lb leader let go. My king and his mates took off with my hook. This was the last we saw of them After not much else happening except for more bonnies, we went over to Barrangaroo where we heard there was bird activity. We caught more bonnies and some chopper tailor from the point to nearly all the way in as far as the old navy ship and sub at Darling harbour. Got bored after awhile and set off for home. 90% of the fish we caught were sent back, and the young ones were happy to be catching fish all day. Cheers Edited December 17, 2010 by penguin
fishmaniac
Nice work mate, Unlucky on the kings. There have not been too many around yet unfortunately. Its tough going to land a few. Great to see you had a good time with the bonnies and the young fellas had fun. Andrew
james7
Great to see you taking out some youngsters again. By their smiles they obviously had a good time. Shame about the kings. I never thought about a cheese and salami half sandwich as kingy bait! It just shows that you never stop learning! Nice report Mr Penguin. Cheers Peter PS Have you tried smoking bonito? I smoked some bonnie fillets this week and they were quite nice, especially if you eat them straight out of the smoker. Not as good as tailor, but still okay. StunnedMullet
Well done mate! Yeah its funny with the kings sometimes. On the weekend we had one come up to the boat and swim around for a while eating bread and pilly pieces that we were using for burley! Good luck with the Kings next time Mick

Hoping to head out there Xmas day and would love some info!!!!! Thanks Nick Heres a pic for you, its about 5-6 inches in length and we trolled while downrigging liveies real slow, our motor was just in gear. Even when downrigging was over we trolled this skirt at higher speeds and it still caught Bonnies. cheers
