wannabefisho Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Corromandel mussel barge gets my thumb up as well. Beware the xxxos kingies who have a liking for weighted 9 inch suggos. Not to mention jigs and live slimeys... just ask big banana about stretched arms on a rampaging 36kegger on a jig I went to Bay of Plenty and also Bay of Islands, we got some nice Red's to 4kg in a few hours on a charter on sunset back when my partner was pregnant with our first child, either way if you get on a boat you should be "on like donkey kong" Good luck budd, hope you brain em' Tight lines Anthony

Kiwi Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Hey Alberto, Hauraki Gulf is chokka full of good snapper and kings at the moment. The area between the north shore and Rangitoto along the edge of the shipping channel is full of good fish. You need the tide run to get into them. Drop a live yellowtail/yakka nose rigged for the kings to about 30lb. Also heaps of big Johndory around the bait. More so on the slower part of the tide. Kings will hit and run where JD's will just be a heavy weight. Big slab baits of bonito, mullet will get you into bronza whalers to 140kg. Flick baits soft plastics off Orakei wharf for pannie snapper, kahawai, trevally. 75-100mm pearl squidgies and the famous nuclear chicken are killer on snapper. Tight lines and can't wait for the stories Cheers Rowan
Kiwi Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Hi Alberto, I sent you a pm re Auckland fishing. Have fun. Cheers Rowan
alvillanova Posted January 30, 2011 Author Posted January 30, 2011 (edited) our fishin trip out of half moon bay resulted in 58 snapper ranging from legal to 54cm. the just legals were going back in quick succession.we had bagged out within 4 hrs what a top spot.baits used squid and pillies. the new t curve rod got a thorough workout, also snared a few kingies......nz is heaven. thinkin about relocating over there in the next year or two. heading back over there later in the year chasin black snapper ie (luderick) i hear they absolutely brain em over there, also cant wait to hit the west coast, when the big knobbies come into shallow water...........im pumped just to add the weather wasnt the best, could only get out once, as i was only fishin weekends as my boat was only available at this time, relos mates boat. no photos as i had forgotten to put batts in my digi sorry guys Edited January 30, 2011 by alberto
