Harrington Bar Crossing

Hi Raiders,

Looking at taking my boat up to Old Bar over Xmas/New Year and have been looking at boat ramps around Manning River and then noticed instead of going up to Crowdy Head to get outside it appears that you can get outside from the bar crossing at Harrington.

Has anyone crossed this bar and if so is it a safe crossing to get in and out from and any info on it would be appreciated.

Yes I have and unless you know it or have a local guy that has been across it before do not try it.

It is difficult to get an idea of this bar and it moves around. The only way to look at it from high enough to see is off the breakwall at Harrington. The Manning Point side is to low.

The entry used to run along the Harringing Wall side and then you needed to go south then out again. Its a long bar crossing as well.

Some of the local guys go through there a fair bit and you may get some advice from them if you go the Bowling Club and ask them.

I know Crowdy is a fair way around but this bar is a ripper.

Yeh it looks like a nasty bar just by looking at google maps, can't be worse than south west rocks though, that bar gives me white knuckles haha.

Might be worth the extra few km's and use Crowdy Head but wanted to fish the river and also duck outside haha.

Crowdy is only 5 Mins up the road and well worth the extra time.....top ramp

The river is a different matter. I have sent lots of hours over many years fishing this river and know it like the back of my hand from Manning Point up to say Croki.

What would you like to target?

I have been across the SWR entry plenty of times its easy compaired to the Harrington one.

If i'm going up river was going to try for flatties and bream and maybe further up some bass.

leo the bar is a no no drop in to the coastgard and have a look at the pics off all the boats that got smashed trying to cross this bar

i'll be at walaby point from boxing day [night]till the 30th so give me a ring when you get up there i'll be chasing flattys with the old man and with a bit off luck farkwarr inlet might be open

Fezza, the bar is really dangerous. I was a regular fisho/visitor to Harrington in my former years we went there every holiday from when I was 4yo till I was 18yo, and have seen people drown near the mouth of the river and over behind the breakwall, I dont think its worth risking personally. We used to know the local beach inspector who was usually the first on the scene when there was a fatality or someone needed assistance.

Launching Harrington is great if you want to go over to the Manning Point Flats or head upstream to the farmlets, but not to get outside... besides the best fishing is NE wide of Diamond Head and up to Port Mac and Laureton.

Good luck while you are up there- you might run into some of the resident Pearl Perch and Snapper, and if you are real lucky you might pull a Teraglin from one of the reefs.

Na, not gonna try the bar, gotta love this site for feedback, if I wanna go outside i'll prolly head up to Crowdy Head unless Brickman shows me another spot haha.
