arpie
Hi guys A few years back, Keith & I were robbed when camping at Cessnock. Apart from losing personal stuff (mainly food) it really shook us to the core & it took a long time to recover from this feeling of insecurity! http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=32731&st=0&p=250665&hl=security&fromsearch=1entry250665 Today, Aldi have a remote controlled security alarm (with 2 remote controls) for only $20. It is simple to operate and is VERY loud. We've had ours for a couple of years now & use it whenever we go to bed when camping (inside our annex) and you could use it in your closed in boat as well, or caravan annex. I also set it when heading away from camp for any length of time. It just gives you that little bit of 'peace of mind' & may actually prevent you going thru what we went thru back then!! Hopefully it will never go off, but if it does, rest assured - it will wake you up immediately & scare the hell out of the burglar!!! oz_brett
Good suggestion Roberta I have had one like that in my boat since new, My boat sits out front with full cover over it. I might replace it while they are cheap I paid about $60 for mine & its getting pretty old now. Good suggestion with the camping might get 1 for the tent for when we are out for the day, Must say though that mine in the boat would go off on hot days had to get vents put in the boat cover to reduce the heat. arpie
Thanks guys - so glad you were able to buy some - they were sold out here at Forster when I tried to get 'a spare'!!! Ne'er mind, I only wanted a 'backup'! There are other 'serious' alarms that you can get for unattended boats (for about $1000) that actually call you on your mobile if/when the perimeter is breached. If leaving your boat/caravan unattended for some time, this may be the road to go down. I really only recommend this one when you are sleeping nearby it!! Anything that you do to deter a thief from making off with your property (especially when travelling) will send out a very strong message to the thief (after they have tripped over your ropes & awnings after the alarm has gone off!!) and hopefully been caught!!! We keep one of the 'remote controls' hanging from our 'reading lights' and the other one 'at the entrance/exit' of the campervan. Either way, we have it 'under control' if/when it goes off during the night, or when we get up in the morning, to dis-arm it! I hope you don't have to use it - believe me, when it goes off (by accident or otherwise) you WILL wake up!!!! Cheerio Roberta
