Yarraone Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 While I was in Geelong with family for xmas, My 2 nephews mentioned that they have never been fishing.. Well "yarraone counldnt let this go, and out come the rods and off we went.. We ended up taking a charter boat out of Queensclif into the bay..It was a perfect day and the fish were on the bite..I must say that i was a bit dissapointed about the legal size for Flathead in VIC...27cm?? Well as soon as the baits hit the water , it didnt take long at all.. We managed about 7 good drifts and all up bagged... 7 Red Garnard 2 Gummy Sharks 32 Flathead and 1 snapper Between all of us..(There was 15 on the chareter) Here are a few pics of our own catch..And I think the boys mat have a record for the Gummy Shark This is the boys first bait in the water First flatty Harry with his first fish..Red Garnard Oli with his first.. Flatty Our Catch... Snapper... This may be a record.. I caught this Gummy Shark on squid strip.. It went 129cm.. But I forgot to put a tape in the pic, as the boys were so excited and wanted a photo.. I will enter it anyway.. All in all was agreat day, and we got a great feed as well
oz_brett Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Great to see kids with there first fish (my 12y/o hates fishing after numerous outings and no hook ups) You are now an uncle to be remembered! well done. What about your boat is it back in action yet? I have followed your posts since that shocker trip waiting to see you the day to make it all worth while.
olitay Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Nice to spend some time with the little ones. Wow, 27 cm for a legal flattie? thats crazy! At least you caught a few. Well done.
Basil D Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 well done guys, that Gummy will down a treat mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
IVZ350 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 yummy yummy gummy mate wonder why vic has a 27cm legal limit on flatties but, ya look at a legal flatty here and there a bit skinny and ya throw them back fro something over the 40 mark at least

Yarraone Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 yep. I must day that even the ones that were just legal did have some good fillets on them .. that system was very healthy..we got a great feed.. We bought home 4 Garnard, 1 Gummy Shark and 7 flatties which fed 7 of us and still had quite a bit left over.. we had only 2 fish that were border line legal size..All others were very legal with the best being around the 50cm mark
johnv Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Well it sounds like u all had a great time out there & the kids show it all with them all smileing. Even got a great feed which is good. I wonder why there size for flatties is so small you would have to catch about 20 to have a feed. cheers john

As well as if you live bait?? you can only use Live bait in the area that you catch it from???
