Cantona
Hi All, Just back from holiday in Jervis Bay (great area). Took the boat out from Callala Bay and wanted to fish around middle ground and the heads to try and snag my first kingfish. Unfortunately on this day while leaving callala bay boat ramp the motor sucked in some weed and it blocked the water intake. So instead of getting out near the heads i ventured only about 1km out into the bay and drifted around. Catching a couple of livies, i put one out on a poor mans downrigger. After about 20mins my rod bent right over and i grabbed it only to find whatever it was didnt hook up. I reeled in to see that half the livie was gone...as the bait got close to the boat i noticed something bigger following the bait so i opened the spool and dropped the bait down a few metres. The bait got crunched again and this time it hooked up. It took off dragging out line in short bursts but it tired pretty quickly and i was able to bring it alongside the boat after a few minutes for a couple of photos before letting it go. I estimate it was approx 4.5 to 5ft, and great fun to catch. PS- ignore timestamp on photos, camera needs resetting. Cheers Edited January 4, 2011 by Cantona

Zdenk01
Hi Cantona, nice hook up, did it fight ? I was at Conjola over Xmas, a surfer was telling me there had been a hammerhead & 2 other sharks hanging about Green Is, swimmers got out of the water but some surfers didnt bother ????????? the plane & helicopters were going over every few hours. Some surfers have big kahuna's or no brains zed

Cantona
Thanks guys, the first couple of runs he pulled really hard and moved the back of the boat around...but he tired pretty quickly and was quite easy to bring up beside the boat whithin a few minutes. I was thinking about keeping him for dinner, but i had my girlfriend and little pet dog on board which didnt give us alot of room for a shark so i thought itd be less drama in letting him go Also it was the first shark id caught so i wasnt sure on the best way to kill it. Do you have to bleed them and how would you do it? And as Phil queried...how do you prepare and cook it? Cheers
