Giac
Hi everyone, I'm taking my kids to Laurieton, mid north nsw coast for a week and would like to know if anyone knows of some easy to get to land based spots for kids to learn and enjoy fishing? I will be pumping Nippers for bait so i would like to target whiting and bream. Thanks in advance, Andrew.
meathead
Head over to North Haven. On a falling tide there is a great sandflat that you can walk out on, pump bait and then fish off. It's pretty much directly opposite the shops. There's plenty of fish on offer up here at the moment as well.
Giac
Thanks Meathead, i'll give it a go there and post the results throughout the week. Cheers
Yarraone
Yes I agree that big sand flat at north havern is huge and has a great drop off t low tide so you can still cast to the deeper water
Giac
Well we got here late yesterday afternoon and went straight to get some nippers, found out my twelve year old daughter is fantastic with a yabbie pump got a couple of dozen and went back for dinner. I kept the nippers alive overnight and went down to Dunbogan park this morning. After catching a few average sized whiting and a very small bream there was only a few nippers left so i put the biggest one on and cast to the shallows on the other side. A soft tug on the line was the only clue that i had a monster flathead on the line, after a few very powerful runs i looked down at my 6lb line and thought it was going to be over soon. After a tense struggle that lasted five minutes of back and forth i finally got to see it, omg i don't have a net.... Luckily just down the shore was a boat ramp so i walked it down and slide it up the ramp. What a great battle and what a fish. Look forward to more battles over the next week. Spanker
Nice work Giac. I have given the sand bank at North haven a few goes but never tried Dunbogan, maybe I will next time. What was the size fo the flattie? Spanker
Giac
Hey spanker, I didn't measure it when caught, my scales and tape measure was too far away but i did use the photo and went back to the boat ramp to retrospetively measure and an estimate is 62 - 65 cm. By far the best i have caught for 20 years. Cheers
