fishmaniac Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Headed out solo at dawn this morning to get a quick fish in. When i arrived at the ramp it was very warm and clear however by the time i reached the harbour bridge I was navigating the harbour from memory through the heavy fog. I had decided to not bother chasing yakkas and started off flicking for squid in the shallows. A school of yakkas showed up and i thought it would be stupid not to get a few given the opportunity. After getting some yakkas I decided to troll the heads before too many boats showed up. I focused my efforts away from areas that in recent weeks we have been plagued by rats. Catching up to 50 fish in a session is fun but when none pull line it becomes a bit monotonous!!!! After a couple of troll runs with the downrigger i got a solid hit. I ran the reel with about 1kg of drag while i pointed the boat into open water. Gave it a bit of throttle and locked up the Saltist. Got the fish off the bommie and into about 25m of water without much structure. Got the downrigger out of the way and within 5 mins had a very nice king onboard. It measured 101-102cm (say 101cm). It was great to finally crack a metre king on the new boat I continued fishing and picked up a few rats and another couple of fish that were legal (all released) but they were not too keen on the yakkas anymore. I picked up a squid and it got nailed instantly. Unfortunately the hook pulled when i was trying to pull the fish off the reef. All in all a good day out as i followed the ferry race back in to the ramp (which i may add was chaos )
quintrex480 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Nice one!! Think i might have give the harbour a go! The bay is plauge with rats! And you are right that no line pulling does be come a bit boring now.
