autocad Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 i was driving home and the traffic was bad, so I thought I might as well throw a few poppers while the traffic subsided. I pulled up in Gladesville near a park and the tide was about 1/2 way full. The area is next to a walking path and the bay is very shallow I would say max 2m. I put on a strikepro popper and proceeded to fan my casts out. I wasn't expecting anything, so was paying more attention to a girls soccer game going on behind me. All of a sudden, I hear this splash and my popper no where is site. I strike hard and I feel some weight. A short tussle later and I have a nice bream of around 30-33cm at my feet. I was more than happy with myself. Took a photo with my phone and let it slide back in the water. I thought I might try catch a flatty so I put on a sinking minnow (can't remember the name) and on my first cast was onto a small flatty of around 30cm. But on trying to release it it spiked me and that was the end of my short session. I was now back on the road on the way home very pleased with my decision to take a short break from the traffic until I got a flat!!! cheers Autocad
Catchin Jack Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Love your work, what a way to get away from that crappy Sydney traffic for a while.

GregL Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 NIce way to spend an arvo, been doing the same out the back of my unit in drummoyne. Heaps of bream and whitting on poppers at the moment and I find the run out better tide wise. Was that down MOrrison Bay Park with the girls soccer? Around the drain bridge on the higher tide is good or drive a little bit more and try Putney park out. The trees in the middle of the wall to the left fishes well at times to. Greg

Greg That's the park Greg. I've caught quite a few flathead around the drain and even inside it. I've just been walking the dog most of the time which has caught me a few fish, but what other retrieves would you recommend? Cheers for the extra spots. ps. the loomis has been great by the way. perfect for the after work sessions on really light jigheads.
GregL Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Try a fast pop pop retrieve where the lure hardly stops for 5-6 rod stabs then pause it for a few seconds and then fast pop pop 5-6 times again then repeat. Works a treat on the big whitting that are in. Make sure you pause it before you lift the lure out of the water, so many times I have been hit at my feet! G
