Downrigging for Kings

Hi everyone,

With my usual fishing buddies unnable to come out with me for a fish today, I grabbed

one of my employees and mate Peg, and took him out on the harbour for a downrigging sesh.

Pegs never seen a downrigger before and was sitting there scratching his head when he saw

both of mine and wandered how they work to catch fish.

He looked even more puzzled later on when I clipped the 1st

7lb bomb on the downrigger, "OH MY GOD, IS THAT THE SINKER",

he says. I fell over laughing at him :074:

We started off at Balmoral in search of yakkas, but they were scarce only managed one. There were garfish in good numbers though but they were very hard to catch, did manage

to put 6 in the livey tank after trying various methods. I also had 10 squid that I had caught recently and frozen them.

To cut a long day short heres a quick run down, we downrigged the tripod, yellow marker,

wedding cakes and the drum at Chowder bay. We had hook ups everywhere except the cakes.

Peg being inexperience lost more fish than he landed, the tripod had him rubbed up and busted off a few times. All fish landed were rats 62-63cm(close but no cigar)

A trio of bigger fish were hooked and fought during our day but only one stuck. A King

of 84cm. Kingy topped with a lemon butter sauce for lunch tomorrow
