This outfit is mated to an evinrude 115 ficht tech injection, which ive been told by a few people they werent much chop. Ive also red that the later models were a dream motor with minimal problems. Thanks...

Hi Dan, that would be a good combo and yes you will here all sorts of things on internet sites etc, but most are from people who do not know what they are talking about. The V4 DI from both OMC and BRP have been great engines and we have customers with thousands of hours on them. The problem childs were the early 2.6L V6 engines that OMC did not do enough R & D on in particular in relation to the oil and they also made the mistake of "giving" them to the wrong people. That said we have a few 150/175HP Ficht engines that are still running well and the owners like them. The latter BRP DI engines (they did away with the FICHT name) are very good engines but just like anything second hand the history of that engine will determine what sort of condition it is in. With a DI engine we can get all that and more from the laptop so has anyone done that and also a basic mechanical check-if not a good idea to find a trained tech with the skill and training to work on these modern DI engines and I would use nothing but XD-100 if my engine, run the best fuel you can get and I hope she is seeing about 5500RPM at WOT on that Lancer otherwise she is not propped or set-up right.

As for the trailer there are good brands and bad/cheap brandes and to get a good quality new trailer for such a boat you will need to budget about $4,300 or about $700 more for a tandem if you want to go that way.

Cheers,

Huey.

Huey thanks mate for your reply. This boat has been completly gutted inside and out, happy with alloy under flooring and very much looking forward to having this girl on the water but we are far from that stage yet. I quite enjoy the transformation stages of buying run down tired alloy boats and turning them into a fishing boat your not ashamed to own.. Although ive owned many a boat and ridden in many more,i have never been inside the model i own now,i owned the smaller version being a savage osprey cuddy cab quite a few years back. This boat was a liitle beauty and a real credit to savage being a whole heap of 4.88mtrs it gave you a false sense of being behind the wheel of a much larger vessel. I had no hesitation crossing Narooma bar in this boat, boys i had fish with me were dumb founded to its sea handling capabilties remembering its only 16ft.. Anyway all that aside Huey thanks again for your response,i have organised for a marine tech to sus this motor out. This guy has worked on a few of my boats and i trust his opinion and quality of work.. If he gives me thgumbs down on donk thats my bad luck and what was a good buy can turn very over priced quickly but a risk i was prepared to take none the less. In mean time il keep hunting down for a trailer and most likely end up buying new tandem. In saying this and with your experience Huey, have or do you know if a single axle would suffice for this boat,i prefer a single, only reason being less maintance but if duelies the way to go then im prepared to head there as well, thanks again, regards Dan.

Hi Dan, no problems and good luck with it and yes a good sense of pride in bringing an old boat back to life and you have a good starting point in the Lancer and Evinrude. We used to be NSW largest Savage dealer when it wa owned by the Savage family and the Lancer is a great boat. Yes a good quality single axle trailer like the Redco RT600-MO that I priced up would be fine due to having a rating of 1500KGs.

Lets us know how you go if you decide to buy it and refurb it.

Cheers,

Huey.

Huey me again buddy, sorry to be a pain but i have a good one for you that will make ya laugh. Ive been on phone for last few hours talking trailers and motors and lots of other BS to any body who wants to listen( joking) Anyway mate this very boat i got was actually originally purchased from you back in the day when dinosaurs roamed the earth. I was measuring total length of boat and staring me in the face is your sticker "Huett marine" Cowan. Talk about a grand laugh,so mate looks like your gunna have to do a great deal on the LS 5.7m-13TB Dunbier ha ha,since you made a good whack from original sale and some things should remain close to your heart :-). All jokes aside though any reports on Seatrail trailers champ? Two grand cheaper but quality surely has to be sacrificed somewhere along the line i would imagine. Il send through hull identification AU-SAV00060G797 any info would be great, thanks buddy....

Hi Dan, yes mate when you have been selling and servicing boats for over 45 years you see them again. At present there is a great Haines Hunter V17L that we sold back in 1981 with the the original V4 Johno on the back that is here again for a new owner to buy and we are repowering. I see it almost weekly, a boat comes in here that was sold years ago. That boat is a 1997 model and as I have mentioned they were/are great hulls and will perform well with that V4, which will be a 1998 model. Considering that engine is now 13 years old not many other clean tech 115HPs that age running around so as I mentioned saying they do not last is typical internet BS.

As for a new trailer the Redco that I PM you about would be the best and yes a mate of mine imports the Seatrail trailers and we sell a few. Yes great value if you want to save a few dollars (not sure $2K is right when comparing apples with apples) but you would have to go to tandem axle with a Seatrail.

Any further questions please ask,

Cheers,

Huey.

Hi Danny, sounding even better with a latter model engine and a BRP built one at that. Yes that is the price for a Seatrail trailer plus regos and we can get them easily. A single axle Redco is a few hundred dearer and the Redco tandem is about $1K dearer, again can get both of these two. You can call me on 9456-1444 phone during the week if have any questions.

Cheers,

Huey.
