fishmaniac Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I launched yesterday morning at around 8:30am with the intention to try and get some solid kings in the harbour. We all know they are around, but its very difficult when you are being inundated with rats. After fishing three marks and catching rats I went to some inshore reefs. Nothing showing and conditions were good. Decided to shoot out to some fish-trap bouys we found SE of the heads. I send out a live yakka and on the first pass landed a 104cm dollie. I don't know what possessed me to do this, but i picked up my 8lb spin outfit with a 10g chromie and sent it out. Hooked up solid and after about 7-8 minutes i landed an 85cm dollie. It was a bit foul hooked so i thought i'd give it another shot as a proper hookup should result in a shorter fight. Couple more casts. On!!! It jumps out of the water. Big Bull on 8lb line, 12 leader and 10 gram chromie. About 15-20 minutes later i landed a 109cm bull. After that i thought it would be best to go back to the saltiga. I proceeded to catch 7 fish around 70-80cm which could not pull line. That's no fun! Back to the spinner then with a livie. Pulled another mid 70s fish. Next bait hookup solid. But its not doing much, just a heavy weight swimming towards the trap. I get a glimpse of the fish. Another bull but bigger than the last! You are kidding me!!!!! He went around the trap a few times while i was hot on his heels to avoid getting busted off then coaxed him about 60m away where i killed the motor. After about 10 minutes it got agitated and went for a great run with a few good jumps. I then got him in around the 20 minute mark. Measured at 125cm (a new PB) and 13.5kg on 8lb braid, 2500 size reel, 30lb leader and a 4-8lb stick. By this stage I was running another 15 mins behind schedule and gunned it back to get to work. I don't know if i'll get another session like this off Sydney anytime soon but here's hoping! Best of luck to all those heading out.
