cameldownunder Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Went out on the boat on Sunday from Roseville Bridge, and once arrived at the Spit marina, reduced my speed to 4 knows. Guess what: I saw boats speeding (on plane) past me, in both directions. None, none of the smaller boats seem to respect the speed limit, and I feel very dumb (respecting the laws). Might this speed limit be similar to the "No Alcohol" on the ferries: Nobody really cares about, but can be enforced depending on the moon or their mood? Or do I have to interpret the speed limit as "Basically 4 knots max, but if no NSW Maririme vessel around, and space permitting, do whatever you want?"
Catchin Jack Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 You have to abide by the law or face fines etc, just because you can't see police etc on the water doesn't mean they're not around, i've seen them on land taking boat rego numbers and giving tickets at ramps for not obeying speed limits etc. Or do I have to interpret the speed limit as "Basically 4 knots max, but if no NSW Maririme vessel around, and space permitting, do whatever you want?" So if they're jumping off a cliff because there's no law enforcement around, would you also follow them?? My guess is no. Stay within your limits and abide by the laws and who cares if you feel very dumb, you're doing the right thing.
brickman Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 i launch at tunks at around 4.00am and agree this is a common problem and all the fools under the bridge with no night light on it is only a matter off time before some one is hurt or killed squid like light you thick heads you know who you are but on a good note waterways and the police do set up and nab all the clowns speeding i've seen 4 boats getting everyone speeding there two weekends ago haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa cheers gary
sanger Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I thought i was the only one who goes 4 knots through there!!!! Maratime and police are often sitting amoungst the moured boats though so im sure we will have the last laugh!!!!
cut_loose Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I agree, i always follow the speed zones, it's not worth the risk, the fine, and anyway, dad can drive slow and i can tidy the boat up for the trip or for going home
cameldownunder Posted February 21, 2011 Author Posted February 21, 2011 Thanks for the answers, Its good to see that NSW Maritime IS enforcing the speed limit AND that I am not the only one who respects the speed limit.
