Hey raiders.

been fishing north head for a while and doing the hard slog sourcing my own livies from clifton garden and carrying them in with me. just thought i'd ask the question is there anywhere closer around manly that is reliable for yellowtail and or squid?

im land based obviously, and yes i know you can occasionally catch livies at bluefish they are extremely unreliable.. and as lobg as i've been carrying my own healthy supply in i've outfished most other people there 3/1 so it's well worth it!!!

any help guys muchly appreciated!!!!

Hey Brettmann. The most reliable spot for yellowtail would have to be walsh Bay Pier 2 and surrounding piers. They are there most of the time.Try there.I also wanted to ask you can you recommend any shark beaches on the Northern Beaches.Have been trying for Jewfish the last 4 months and have only got donuts so I would like to catch some whalers they go alright on the plate so I am told.Have you been targeting sharks of late.

Cheers Steve

Thanks for the info steve, as i said it's hard carrying your own livies in there but it is so worth it.

and sadly no i havn't been doing much sharking lately, i've been giving my shoulder a rest after having some bone spurs removed from it but still giving some fish a crack, umm well let me start you out for the time being.. if your after the smaller models of say a metre to a matre and a half then i wouldnt really go past either mona vale or palm beach i've had really good reports of bothe those areas producing small whalers.. also avoca rocks at night (obviously scout the swell out and so on first up) will also put you in with a better shot than most at some average sized sharks.. patonga wharf has had some decent catches as of late but they have been 50kg plus models, most problematic thing i've heard lately are leaders getting chewed through i cant reccomend enough for whatever breaking straing your using to have 49strand wire it is alot tougher than the single strand or 7 strand.. remember to keep your old fish frames for burley and soak a couple of hessian bags in tuna oil and allow them to wash around in the surf. there's no real factors that bring them on too much they're not as fickle as jewies so you can target them pretty easily, just remember to use a big bait that is very oily/bloody i.e salmon, bonito, stripies a 2 hook rig with 8/0's or 9/0's should do the trick and should see you with one on the sand without too much effort.

hope that was what you were after steve,

anyways tight lines brett
