brooker boy Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 hello raiders i went out on sunday morning just off north head in the harbour we troll for bonito picked up 4 so we decided to anchor up in 36 meters of water to do some bottom bashing but 10 mins later the water around the boat started to boil up so i decided to throw out a halco twister on my little squid rod and manged to hook up a nice tuna at least 2 to 3 kgs when i got it to the boat it had stripes running down its side and at the rear of the fish was blue lines so im not sure what type of tuna it is?we managed to get 3 but lost 3 cause only 8 pound line.

More than likely a striped tuna aka stripey or skipjack i believe
cut_loose Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Look like this mate ? Got it off Sydney Heads a few weeks ago, if so it's a striped Tuna
james7 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Sounds like a stripey (Skipjack tuna). These pictures might help you see the difference between some of the common tuna and bonito. (click on the images to enlarge them) Cheers Peter
brooker boy Posted March 5, 2011 Author Posted March 5, 2011 yea the tunas do look like that but i dnt see the blues lines down the tunas back in your pictures
Noodles Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Based on the description you have given and the number I have caught in the last 2 weeks, they were Striped Tuna (Skipjack) for sure.
