onthego Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Headed out yesterday to chase some of those big kings out at the peak i have been reading about, loaded up with livies, got out to fad and peak about 9 with us and one other boat out, love fishing weekdays. nothing showing on sounder and drifted from one to the other, clear skys, flat seas, no fish, had quick chat with other boat who had already landed one beakie in area and decided to head up to 12 mile to see what was around, ran a spread with a couple of lures for dollies and a couple of christmas tree on riggers to pick up a few bonnies for fun, oops, on about our 5th bonnie half way there we got sprung, a big stripee jumps on bonnie and we are on, mind you should have had something bigger out than the old penn 330 with 8 on it and would have been great if we had had a harness. stripee comes up and its the biggest i have seen in a long time, guessing close to 120kg, spent the next hour and a half running rings around it trying to get line, everytime we got it within 20feet of the boat off it would go. Getting close to 2hrs and he dives deep again this time he is not coming back, decided to try locking him up so thumb on the reel and bang, hes gone. There was only two of us on board, missed some great shots on the camera while trying to round him up but if anyone finds him with the 16cm christmas tree stuck on his beak let me know, love to get it back.
bennoz Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 awesome stuff that pic would have been a RIPPER shot with the CBD in the background as a massive stripe jumps. even as it is, gives me tingles
