cameldownunder Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Hi All Was thinking of going a weekend down to Windang and among other things ( you guessed it: ) do some tubing on Lake Illawarra. Does anyone know if there are sharks in the lake? Thanks. Oh ... If I would have time to fish, what species should I target?
Get The Net Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 yes on the shark told by the guy in the bait shop a 2 metre Hammerhead & a bull shark had a go at a Kayak a while ago plus you can have a look at this on the fishing side heaps of flathead, bream, whiting & taylor, Only seen them at the boat ramp when they clean them a week ago. garryl Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 There are sharks everywhere! I wouldn't say that the lake is a place people go fishing for them, which says to me there aren't many. I've taken my kids tubing and don't have any concerns. I've never had a great deal of success fishing wise just the odd flatty. Like most rivers if you know the ins and outs you can be quite successful. There are quite a few posts in this forum on the lake. Do a search and you'll find heaps of info. Good luck!

njg02 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 It's only a little shark. I grew up near the lake. Collecting mussels, prawns, fish and ocky. The ramp we use is in Berkeley Harbour. Double with plenty of parking and a bit sheltered. Just a bit to the east is a nice grassy area for the family. The ramp next to the wooden boardwalk is a bit shallow. There is a good fish and chip shop in the harbour as well. The lake itself has had a hard life but is fairing well lately. The depth used to be about 1.7m most of the way across but I'm not sure now with the tides. Neil
