Sanfly Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 on youtube you can see the HDS and the DSI working at the same time The DSI looks fantastic Im looking to up grade at the moment So lucky I didnt buy the HDS as I would be kicking my self
tchoklat Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 you can upgrade you hds to have dsi Yes I have the HDS 10 with DSI Tony

fishon Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Someone please tell me if this would actually help me catch fish, I've a older hummingbird and spend most boating time around Cowan creek to Patonga. I've been enjoying reading the tips and friendly banter on FR, if you really just stay around those spots i wouldnt get one but i do a lot of exploring and always looking for new places ledges drop offs etc and really i just want to see the bottom a lot clearer just outa curiosity i guess and take it to my old haunts and see how different the bottom looks but i guess for 450 inc delivery not really a big sum to cough up hope this helps
GrahamG Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Thanks for the advise, could I ask where you got it for $450. If you could please pm me, I'll get to see how pm's work as well. Thanks again. Edited March 13, 2011 by GrahamG
olitay Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Just installed the DSI Elite, ill post a review asap. looks good so far, bit concerned that the manual reads a max depth of 90Meters though. B
cut_loose Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I heard something they go down to 300 meters, i don't know though, i'm never that far out
olitay Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I heard something they go down to 300 meters, i don't know though, i'm never that far out ill check the manual again, maybe that was the imaging, not standard sonar
macnaz Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 (edited) Cat No: 6165X Lowrance Mark-5x DSI Mono FishFinder $399 Does anyone know where i can get one cheaper than that . I can get one from the states for 300 bucks..... can you believe that!! even with nearly $50 delivery thrown in its still 100 bucks cheaper. Every hobby ive ever been involved in has always seen aussies ripped off, our dollar is actualy worth more than theres so we should be fairly close when it comes to pricing Hmmmmm im not sure what i should do here tho, maybe warantee could be a prob with an overseas one. a boat Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Hi, I have used both in the water and DSI is a cool feature if you use the boat for that style of fishing. If you are after the better screen and more deep water ability the HDS-5 unit is a better way to go in my opinion and you can always save the pennies and fit structure scan latter and not only get down imagining but also side that if you are using the rivers I think is more useful than down imagining. As for pricing, we will never be cheaper due to the population differences, it is all a numbers game and if i buy anything in bulk I get better prices. Persoanlly I can offer good prices for any Raider that contacts me and I would upgrade to the colour Elite unit if after DSI becasue with this technology the colour really makes the images stand out. Cheers, Huey.
macnaz Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 (edited) Has anyone bought an overseas unit and needed a repair ? just wondering how you would go if warranty was needed. Edited April 13, 2011 by Macnaz
a boat Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Hi, if you choose to spend your money and support overseas businesses and you need help you would have to send the unit back there. Also there are things like geofences, warnings on the screen that you can not get rid of and only imperial settings if you choose to buy OS. As I have said the prices we can offer Raiders now on the major brands like Raymarine, Furuno, Humminbird, Lowrance and GME are very competetive and come with full warranty and after sale service-we can even fit them for you if you are not confident in doing it yourself. Cheers, Huey.
LeoB Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Agree with huey 100%. Lowrance do put a lock on their products so they cannot be used os...not as big a problem with sounders as gps (metric to imperial) but have heard of gps bein locked and nothing better than a paper weight. Also had a mate get a cheap gps off a mate of a mate who worked for the aussie supplier for navman. Got a great cash price for a unit which failed 2 years later and no one in sydney would fix it as he didn't have a reciept Cheers Leo

Anyway ill keep u all posted on how i go.
Flightmanager Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 I'm in the market for a Lowrance Combo unit. ( The Minister For War is paying !!!). Have a good price ( I think ) from a major retailer, but the newer all singing , all dancing DIGITAL unit is actually cheaper than the previous model. The older model has the you beaut Navionics GOLD installed , whereas I get the " Basic " mapping with the newer digital unit. The newer unit will communicate with my beloved Etec ( those of you who do not own an Etec will not understand.). Which way should I go? Im Hoping Craig will help me out here , ( as he will be installing it !). ( Shameless plug for Huetts Marine , only people who will ever touch my Etec !!). This will be my first foray into the murky waters ( forgive the pun !) of dual purpose sounders/Plotters. I have a 4.3M Haines -Hunter runabout, and typically I fish the Harbour , and occasionally the South Coast. I have my eyes on the 5 " model , but am lusting after the 8 " screen. Any comments are most welcome !! Ross
a boat Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Hi Ross, both the HDS-5 and HDS-8 are great units that will work very well in your Haines Hunter. Both are capable of adding structure scan down the track to give you the fantastic side and down imagining and if that is what you are thinking of stumping up the extra dollars for just go the HDS-8 unit because the screen size and pixel count with side and down imagining is very important. Also as I posted a while back the new Raymarine pricing makes them a very good option as well and these come with in built Silver charts giving more detail than the world wide chart all untis come with. To confuse you even more the new Elite series in either 2D or DSI are good units too, but hte HDS units are worth the extra dollars in my opinion. Add the HB range in the mix and it becomes even harder to decide and they come STD with down and side imagining and the 700 series is great vlaue for what you get. PM me or best call with the budget the war minister has said you can have and I will point you in the right direction and give you a fitted Raider price. Cheers, Huey.
Flightmanager Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks Craig , I'll enter into negotiations with the Relevant Minister , and get back to you !! Ross
mike82 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 (edited) Regarding warranty, I have a 5 yr old lowrance lms-525 combo. during the warranty period 4 were replaced! Each time I asked if I was doing something wrong but the marine shop i bought it from would just say ' nah it's just the way they are we get heaps back! ' and replaced for a brand new unit each time no questions asked! So I would never buy one overseas. After sales service and supporting an Aussie company would be worth the 100 bucks to me!
