stevo-72 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) Hello raiders Happy about this one as its broken our drought in the legal size kingy department. It went 84cm and took a lolly-pop size squid on a double hook snelled rig. Edited March 17, 2011 by stevo-72

Well i do most my king/jew fishing off the land as i dont have a boat. But this is what i use. - 12ft 8-12kg Surf Platinum Ugly Stick - Daiwa Saltist 6500H Spin/Jig Reel spooled with 550m of 50lb Suffix Braid - 80lb Fluro Carbon Leader - Gamagatsu 5/0,6/0 Octapus Circle Hooks You think i need to change anything?
t187 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 nice one mate. i landed my first legal kingy a couple weeks back and it was also on fresh squid in the bay, ive tried live yakkas for no bite so squid is definately the way to go, only wish they were as easy as yakka to find!
stevo-72 Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 (edited) @mr king.....80lb leader is a bit high, try half that and the hook up rate should be better, the rod reel combo you mentioned is really good and don't strike if your on circle hooks. I have a mate who is a land lover and sure as hell kicks my ass in the fishing department. Edited March 17, 2011 by stevo-72
Mr.KingSpooled Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Sounds like a plan. Ill go get some 40lb fluro leader and give it a go. Ive heard go lighter before, i did a few weeks back and got smoked twice in one night. Upgraded back to 80lb and nothing, so maybe just put more pressure on the fish in the initial running sstages. Thanks mate, Mr.KingSpooled
paul fishfeeder Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 ha fellas one good point is the bait,u can't go past fresh squid dead or alive.fished jb last weekend for some nice kings and found that at a certain time they where coming on the bite 2.30pm but untill that time we would only hook up on fresh squid.dead squid that was not cleaned but laid out and cut into rings, ink, guts and whatever was in them,it seemed the more ink that came out of the bait when droped in the water the quicker the hook up.any way, catch many and let just as many go...good luck all
