Georges River Jews

Hey Raiders,

I was thinkin of heading up to my local georges river tonight to do some chasing of Jewfish. There has been some good fish pulled from these water's lately, local tackle store owner explained that there were 2 anglers that caught over 5 jews in 2 nights with 1 hitting over the 12kg mark. Just wondering if anyone was interested in doing a trip out to chase these fish from the Georges. I have never really fished for them here and not too sure how to go about it. I was talking to a mate of mine (Sol Banurra), he recommended using a cocktail bait of fresh Cali Squid and Hawkesbury Prawn. Im thinking of applying this technique tonight on one rod and have a large hard bodie on a 2nd rod. I plan on having my bait setup to sit in the deeper holes with bigger sinkers, and whilst i wait for them to be hit have a big hard body worked over the area, to either entice a big fish to hit it and if not atleast it puts movement and vibration in the water to attract the bigger predator fish. So if anyone has any experience of this area and would like to come along or simply if anyone feels like coming along to chase these jew's with me tonight would be great. I was thinking of chasing them from Picnic Point Boat Ramp, well around the corner from there in the deeper section.

PM if your interested aye.

Cheers ladies n gents,

Mr.KS aka Jez

I've been wanting to have a go at catching a Mullaway in the Georges river too and was thinking where would be a good place to start? I'm keen on tagging along but not sure how the wife will respond! What time you planing on fishing? I'm not that far from picnic point just depends on time.

Was just driving back along the henery lawson drive and saw a bloke hanging onto one of the pylon under one of the bridges. Had a few lines out, looked like he was waiting for a big hit!

with all this fresh water i would be fishing towards the mouth of botany. tends to drive them out from upstream like taren pt bridge or molly point but good luck with the crowds landbased. fresh caught squid will out fish any baits saying that ive caught 15+kg jews on yakka fillets.

Yeah ive heard about alotta fresh water mixed in up further in the georges. But its close to where i live so it makes it an easy access point to fish. I usually catch alotta bream where iam and the occasional flattie and whiting. Still yet to crack a jewy up these ways but from what ive heard from my local tackle shop of jewies in excess of 10kg's being pulled from Picnic point makes me think yeah i got a chance. Although i have never even caught a jewy reguardless it be soapy or not. So really going about this task is more of a mission then i first thought, but then again I'll never know if i dont wet the line. So gonna go out local this arvo with some plastics and lures. Try get myself some poddy mullet as livey's and see how things prevale ! Hopefully if it all comes out good i get a decent jewie !!! If not ill just have to try again. Any recommendations in fishing water that is mixed with a fair ammount of fresh water for jewS? any info will help !

Mr.KingSpooled! Where were you? lol

I ended up alone under one of the railbridge on the georges river. Fished 2 hours and lost possibly a mullaway!

Took 2 rods with me, one with a shimano baitrunner & other for spinning lures. Set the baitrunner with frozen whiting my wife bought from the markets for dinner sometime this week! lol Got there about 6:40pm and the tide was still running out. Didn't stop until 7:10pm. Still nothing at this stage. About 30 mins had past, spinning around the pylons I see a tap on the baitrunner :1yikes:

I quickly run over mad to pick up the rod and wait for him to go for a run! At this stage, I had forgot that I put the baitrunner in free spool. He picks up the line and starts moving (has some weight) and quickly I try and set the hook! bbzzzzzzZZzzzzzzzzZZzzzzzzz! What a mess! braid got tangled all over the rod and reel! :ranting2: by the time I untangled the line, he was gone! :mad3:

Put another bait out but the tide started to run back in, started to get heaps of snag so gave up and headed back home!

This only makes me want to keep chasing them until I land one! damn you! It's like chasing a free spin on the pokies! Soon I need to call the Mullaway Hotline!

lol Moe wish I could come give ya a hand teaching what ya taught me, but this uni works killing me, I just came on now to see the updates, and I see your already teaching other youngens (jealous). Its k your a great teacher, but dont get me wrong, your still a pain in the butt.

I would seriously love to catch another jewie as the itche is starting to burn, but I just dont have time or bait to do it, I may check up if the local and see if it has fresh frozen hawkbury squid to save me the hassle of catching freshies, and may organise something soon, or may go sp'ing with the other fish raider, if you still wanted to come Moe.

oh and also, let me know when the squids start flying into the bays again, there was some medium to large green eyes at gymea last saturday morning when I went.

I have not much of an idea on it, thats why im asking a fellow raider to a session with them, Ive got like $150 worth of them atm because of Catch of the Month. so may aswell use them. I have had a go, just let them sink, and jig em slowly at the bottom, couldnt imagine the amount of times you can snag doing it >.<.
