pure spirit Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) head out early wednesday went to balmoral and quickly filled up on livies with a mix of gars and yakka (bit small) and a couple of squid. had a couple of bonties hit my livies but no luck on the kingies so head to longie first drop small king on a yakka. over the next hour got another small kingie and a few small snapper but nothing for the box. tried a few more marks with no luck. time for plan b with a tank of livies headed of the wave rider I had two marks first mark not to be found head to the next mark about 2kms away. next mark no luck did a wide loop found it about 300m west. but more importantly mahi everywhere hands shaking i set for my first drift 1 floating live yakka and one set at about 4 m, drifted straight over them not hits...no luck over the next 2 hours i tried everything, trolling, spinning poppers / deep divers, plastic (fast slow stop start), bontio fillets, squid, pillies, jigging and even fly. with only one hit on a spun metal which didn't hook up. left to beat the storm home ... any suggestions Edited March 31, 2011 by pure spirit

I am upgrading later in the year and yours is one on the list to consider. Cheers Mike.

fishmaniac Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 What size leader did you use? When they are finicky often a 12lb leader and fishing a berley trail can work. Given conditions on wednesday and tuesday it is most likely they copped a hammering before you arrived and were no longer on the bite. Try getting there early next time, it often does the trick
