mgj Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 I went out today and found loads of kings down deep. But they are wary and difficult to hook. Having said that, I Ianded 2 on fly,and one big bustof -not a bad day Mark
mgj Posted April 6, 2011 Author Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) Are these the ones off North Head? No,these came from the Harbour.I found a good school at Nth Head but I could'nt tempt them. The drift was very fast. Mark Edited April 6, 2011 by mgj
kurtisjohnthomas Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 So were the ones you landed on fly up on top. They were around in the harbour in Feb but had dissappeared. I got this one in a school of about 1000 on the surface in Feb.
Simple Truths Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Interested in what pattern you used. And, did you use a sinking line.... ie get them down deeper or up top? JOC
Piss'n'Broke Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Nice work Mark! You been out abit lately? Neither Myself or Greg have seen you out there recently. You must be avoiding the weekend rat race. Dan
mgj Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) Nice work Mark! You been out abit lately? Neither Myself or Greg have seen you out there recently. You must be avoiding the weekend rat race. Dan Dan & Greg, I've been out lately but the fishing has slowed-plenty of kings but it takes a big effort to snare them. Their minds must be elsewhere ie breeding? I landed a couple on fly today.I'm waiting for a repeat of the big kings we bagged next to each other last April! How are you blokes going with the kings? It is good to catch up with you guys because that is normally where the fish are! Incidently we have lost a lot of good kingfishing after the Quarantine Buoy was not replaced. We need to lobby to get it back. Mark Edited April 9, 2011 by mgj
Piss'n'Broke Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Your not bloody wrong there Mark, they need to put that marker back in this year! Greg has still been getting a few 99.999999% of them are rats 62-64.5cm but the time will come. Love catching kings as a by catch whilst chasing jews in the colder months, they always tend to be legals. And bring back those big kings in 8-10metres of water over reef! Dan
idolz Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 I fished 50 metres off the gap 2 weeks ago in about 6-8 metres( I could see the bottom) had about 100 kinghys there chase my bait/lure/soft plastic/ jig but none would take it,,,, the buggers followed them all the way to the boat every time

That was the spot in skinny water over that reef last year-good memories. Mark Edited April 10, 2011 by mgj
southerly Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 (edited) Good going as always Mark. I fished Dobroyd on Friday for a big frigate on a SP and a possible hit from a rat, otherwise the surface action was pretty sporadic. Got a nice red off Narrabeen inthe yak on Saturday. See you out there again soon. Yeah I miss the Q bouy as well, it was close to home. The kings are around just having a quiet spell, expect another burst soon. David Edited April 10, 2011 by southerly

Mark Your spot on there Mark, if they follow your bait, sp, or fly up from down deep looking at it, you will rarely hook these fish. But like everything there is always exceptions, and I have seen this occur when a lovely big southern was lowered down. Instant hook up. Dan Edited April 12, 2011 by Dan and Greg
