Tackle Junkie Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Hi Guys / Girls, The last 3 outings in the new boat have been fantastic, we have caught 3 marlin, 2 wahoo and some good dollies. The only problem has been that none of the marlin I have been mine. I shelled out on the new boat and have put some mates onto their first Marlin. I say this jokingly as we have had a ball and I have traced 2 marlin, which was daunting at first. Anyway, we have not been out for 8 weeks due to work / weather and I have been busting to get back out there. Well myself and a mate headed out yesterday in hope of me finally getting a marlin - well job done............. We headed out towards the shelf / browns and starting trolling 1km before the 12 mile. We must have been trolling for about 40mins when shotgun goes nuts. It was my own outfit and i chose the lure so I truly consider that the marlin was mine. The first run took almost every bit of line on the reel and i was at sunset. Only two onboard and we were trolling 5 lures and 2 teasers, with about 50 meters of line left i said to my mate - we are going to have to turn and chase / back up / anything otherwise i would get spooled. I still don't know how this happened but shotgun went off - line was screaming but we saw a massive splash right next to the boat (5 meters) off the port side. Obviously there was a belly in the line, but how it was running and how it got to the boat so quick?? oh well. Anyway we only saw a splash not the fish - we assumed it was a marlin but were not 100%. Anyway an hour and 5 mins later we swam and released what I think is a blue marlin - to say I am stoked is an understatement, my partner does not understand my excited but she lets me fish so i guess i can't complain. We are new to game fishing - this has only been now my 4th trip to the shelf and the boat has raised a marlin every trip. I am wrapped. With only two on board photo's / video was difficult. I forgot my video camera and still camera was flat. Either way i have proof - my mate got video on his mobile phone and i got two stills on the iphone. One of my favourite rods became a short stroker, but who cares, the marlin box has been ticked. Job Done....bring on next Saturday. Cheers, Josh
