Hi Raiders,

Second voyage in the yak yesterday, and my first fish for many a long year! One flathead, about 27cm, returned to the water.

I went to the tackle shop this morning to replace a brand new graphite rod which I destroyed.

I broke the tip off during the fight with the flathead.

It wasn't the rod I was using at the time, just an innocent bystander that got caught up in the action on board the boat. Anyway, I asked The Guy at the Tackle Shop what lures I should use while trolling, and he put me onto some little diving jobbies that he reckons are just the thing. I then pointed at a purple spinning lure on the display that was similar to the one I caught the flathead with. I think it was a bass lure.

That's when he flinched.

He said that flathead are very stupid fish, but turned to look at me when he said the word "stupid".

Hmmm,a bloke could get an inferiority complex hanging around you fishing folk.....!

Good fishing!

:074: :074: Don't take any notice of that 'stupid' tackle shop boffin ...... he probably just wanted you to buy the more expensive lures!!!

Well done on your first outing in the PA ........ shame about the rod - but I have 'customised' many a rod ...... my latest theory is NEVER to have a rod in the rear right-hand-side rod holder, as I tend to catch them when I do a WICKED cast ...... busting about 5cm off the top of the 'newly customised' rod!! :tease:

Might see you out on the water some day - I have a Hobie Sport & fish Wallis regularly!! Will be over Tuncurry side tomorrow - from midday - launching from Mountview Pde. There are a couple of other yakkers there too, so feel free to attend!!

Give me a yahoo if you want a buddie to fish with on weekends (or weekdays!! :biggrin2: )

cheers

Many thanks for the offer Roberta, I'll see if I can get there at midday. I definitely need all the help I can get!
