mikey85m Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Hey guys, I'll keep it short and sweet. I've read alot of people buying Baitrunners for land based stuff but nothing really in regards to fishing from a boat. Basically I've been looking at the Baitrunner D in either 6000 or 8000. The 8000 has an extra 2 Kilo drag. Looking to stock it up with 50lb braid and chase some kings with livies on it. Oh I also don't have a rod but was thinking an ugly stick around the 10kilo mark. Thanks guys.
mikey85m Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 Sorry my bad, I meant should I go the 6000 or 8000 or is it much of a muchness.
rockfisherman Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Depends on what u like, I prefer smaller reels... Is skull dragging a king to the surface fun? I'd say no.
SZ1 Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 The 8000 would be my pick, the larger spool will allow you to fish heavier line if needed. If your only getting rats you can always back the drag off a bit. Although when targeting king with livies I never let them take the bait and run as the reel is always in fighting drag as they tend to hook them selfs not to mention you really don't want to give them a head start.
mikey85m Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Yeah I went for the 8000. Bought one off online shop for $177 delivered. Now I just need a rod. I was going to go for a plane 'ol run of the mill ugly stick but now I'm thinking of spending the dosh and grabbing a TCurve Revolution offshore, 10 - 15Kg troll rod. I've always been the kind of person who thinks a rod is a rod, it's not going to help you land a fish, it comes down to the reel, line and hook. However saving 100 bucks on the reel has made think.. it would be nice to have just 1 nice and shiny rod. Any thoughts on the rod?
dmad_dood Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 You made the right choice! Ive used the baitrunner 8000 many times on kings and its a great reel, especially if your thinking of downrigging. Its got enough drag for sydney although in saying that when i caught a 95cm king it was locked up and still screaming . T-curve would suit it really nicely, great rods. Good luck on those kings.
