smith Posted May 9, 2011 Share Posted May 9, 2011 I went down to my local spot to get weed on Saturday for a Sunday blackie session. While walking over to the creek a guy was coming back with a bucket full. It was even past the top of the bucket. He was telling me he was going for a session down at Tom Uglys Bridge that arvo. After talking to him about blackies & when he had left, I thought to myself this guy has grabed a hole bucket full of weed just to use that afternoon. He reckoned most of it was to be used for burly. I know weed is hard to come by at the moment but this guy didn't seem to care on how much he took. I know when I get weed I just get enough for bait & burly & leave the rest for the next time & for other fellow blackie fishos. What are other fellow blackie fishos thoughts on this subject. To be honest I dont see the need in over taking weed, take what you need and go. Lol a whole bucket full of weed, maybe he might have like 20 anglers to feed? haha iunno but still take what you need and leave the rest for next time and also others ! fatfisherman Posted May 9, 2011 Share Posted May 9, 2011 I am with you scrubby. I think I know the creek you are talking about as I too collect weed from here. I only take as much as I need for a few sessions of blackfishing. Any more is inconsiderate to both the weed and other blackfishermen/blackfisherwomen. If I determine that there is not much weed around I will only take enough to fish with and none for burley. Surprisingly I have actually had a fair bit of success lately with not burleying at all. smith Posted May 9, 2011 Author Share Posted May 9, 2011 Don't know how much is left Royce the creek was abit dirty & hard to see the weed. This guy with the bucket had gumboots on so I gather he was wading out into the centre where the better weed is located & grabbing it all. Didn't have much success on Sunday only landed one at the wharf. They were real touchy just barely taking the float under then letting it go. Even Darling Harbour was the same story. slam354 Posted May 9, 2011 Share Posted May 9, 2011 Yeah its pretty sad when you see this happen as when I was there last time it was the same story the creek was raped.Thats why Rickster used to get his weed way down south to avoid these idiots taking more weed than necessary.I only take what i need but on the bright side there will be nothing left for this joker.Us true luderick fishermen will always be able to get weed of the rocks if necessary. macman Posted May 9, 2011 Share Posted May 9, 2011 I don't know what your weed gathering spot is like, but sometimes its best to get it while its going, it can disappear as soon as it blooms depending on the conditions. Taking a bucketful doesn't sound like biggest crime against niggermen, now taking several broccoli boxes full might be stretching the friendship a bit.
