Cobba12
Hello to you all. I am a new member and very happy to have read some great posts with loads of general chit chat followed on by some great advice and help for newbie's. I have been in London the last 6 years and have just moved to Sydney (Bondi). I am originally from Noosa Heads and I must admit I am not used to fishing beaches and rock hopping. I have a 4500 bait runner spooled with 30lb braid and a 10ft silstar power tip. I also have a 3500 without a rod as of yet and a 6500 that I will bring down after my next trip up north. I think this should be a pretty good spread of gear to cover rocks and beach. What my problem now is that I have no bloody idea where to go. I have so far fished north Bondi rocks and been blown away by what I suspect to be a groper and I have fished down from my place on the northern rocks at McKenzies and got myself a nice tailor before the idiot "snorkel brigade" scared the school away. I am interested in catching salmon, Kings, tailor, drummer, squid and luderick and would be very grateful on any tips or advice. Please help me out im so keen its not even funny and I need to start justifying my lack of "girlfriend time" with some fish before she thinks im seeing someone else. Im thinking of heading out again this afternoon. HELP!! Craig
humesy
G'day, You could try Shark Point off the northern end of Clovelly Pool. Head as far out as you can on the rocks. Plenty of Salmon there and kings too at times. Try casting big sluggos out and ripping them in. It's a popular dive spot so that can ruin the bite when a couple of divers swim through. All part of fishing in a big city (especially the eastern suburbs). I do hate it though when a snorkeller goes right past your line when you have been fishing there already. Usual word of warning on watching the swell. I wouldn't fish it in a southerly. N/E wind works well as can help with casting. Wear cleats/rock shoes. There is (or was when I used to live in Coogee 5 years ago) a big Korean contingent who fish there. They wear inflatable pfds and fish for kings with long whippy rods and tiny squid strips. Some of them wear their golf shoes too!
kulch
hi craig Between Tama and Bronte is pretty good, but also busy at times............Malabar is the spot - yet very dangerous, compared to bondi, bondi is for me one of the calmest beaches on the east coast of australia...the north bondi rocks sometimes looks like a lake, and south bondi can be cranking with surf - this is due to the beach actually facing south, and any easterly swells are cut off by the northern headland I'm not too familiar with the beach fishing aorund bondi - its too packed....but i presume the usual, salmon, flathead, whiting, tailor will be caught The other day i was thinking of heading down to north bondi and have a cast...........there is a nice ledge off the north rocks, and you should get some schooling sambos and tailor and the odd whiting or flatty lurking the deeps I usually fish the harbour between rose bay and south head, dont have to worry about swell, and i know the kings are in the harbour.......i am trying to get my first king, and i will not fish anywhere else unless i leave sydney Looks like you will have the wind behind you this arvo - if i was going, i'd try north bondi headland - once past the kiddy pool throw some lines out, and work your way up to the point..........i know around the corner of the point u can get down there and get epic fishing behind the golf course if conditions can suit In this order i'd try, North Bondi - South Bondi (boot, behind the ice bergs) - North Mackenzis - South Tama I have lived in bondi for a life........have NEVER fished it - That will change this summer

Some of them wear their golf shoes too! Thanks for the advice. I will head down that way shortly. What size slugs do you call big? I have 25 gram up to 60 gram. I have also had some serious issues with the braid i bought recently. Have you ever had it not want to come off the reel properly and kind of clink and clank off causing the luge to slow in the air and even bounce back? I thought it might have been because i was under spooled but if i was it was marginal and then when i stripped off 40 meters due to a mysterious braid knot and snap the casting got better. I think i may have just got a bad batch. Where is the nearest tackle store by the way? I have been going to ****** for slugs and jigs and the likes but it feels like im visiting a brothel (never been to one babe if your reading this. The other place i have been is fish out of water in the city because they are having a closing down sale. I worked hard today so i hope to get out for a fish tomorrow. Thanks again for the advice. humesy
Get down to Global Tackle. I am not sucking arse in recommending a sponsor of the site; Wahyu has a wealth of knowledge, especially about the eastern suburbs spots. The shop is on Anzac Drive in Maroubra. Go the big 12 inch plastic sluggos or stick baits as they are sometimes called. You don't use a jig head; just rip them along the surface and they resemble a wounded garfish. Used to get the salmon swarming all over them and it is very exciting watching them hit it on the surface. You may get kings to do the same if they are turned on. As for your knots, they could be wind knots, usually caused by using lures that are too light for the line/rod/reel (as far as I understand). Watch the weather tomorrow. The wind is meant to be attrocious and I reckon the swell will be on the rise in a day or two. PS, best to post this type of question in the "Fishing Chat" section Edited July 4, 2011 by humesy

Gilbey Mate if you know where the blackfish are then we are going to be good friends. I fished for them all my life up in Noosa and send bait up for dad. I am in a constant fishing competition with him and he hates that i can catch them year round down here. I love the art of fishing for blackfish and would be super keen to hit the spots you know. I have no idea where malabar is and do not have my car down here yet. What i do know is that my mate went diving around at icebergs and said he saw a heap. After wandering the rocks again over the weekend i think i might have an area that will harbour fish. Tomorrow is meant to be almost dead flat so i think i may get into the city, get some gear and give them a crack. The rod i will be buying will be a soft blackfish rod that i will double as a whiting rod. So im dead keen to try your spots. Let me know when you need some company
luderick -angler
Cobba flick me a PM I will let you know where the blackies are in the Eastern Suburbs at the moment and what spots to fish and what swell Flatiemad and myself have been killing the fish of late around there. There have bee nbig schools of them from Botsny Heads to just north of the old Bondi murk I suspect they are schooling to run north as the harbour ids virtually devoidof blackfish compared to the last few years get into them whilst you can! If you are after a good soft blackfish rod for rocks the Snyder 3145 or MT4144 are good the mag bream is also good ableit about 8 inche too short! Still yet to fish that little tucked in corner behind icebergs but thinking it may hold some blackfish so may try it out soon.
