arpie
Hi Raiders Pete rang again last night & suggested we hit the beach again at 6.15am again this morning for a beach fish ......... it was SO c-c-cold the other day, I quickly suggested a blackie fish at Tuncurry instead! I knew that Pete had brought up some lovely weed (some from Swordie, thank you Stewy!) So we met up this morning at 9am at the jetties over in Tuncurry. The out tide seems to be the more productive along the TUncurry side, and it was flowing out beautifully! On about my 2nd cast, I came up tight against a good fish & blow me down, if it doesn't get off! About to rebait, I notice that the hook has been a bit straighened!! Must have been big! I bent the hook back into shape (yeah, I know I should have replaced it!) and continued fishing. Had a few small ones on & then another big down, I struck & came up with ....... nothing! Checking the hook out, it had busted in half! All that was left was the straight shaft!! Silly me, if I'd replaced the hook (as I should have!) I would have landed a very nice sized blackie, I reckon!! Pete was fishing on the jetty & catching lots of smaller ones By now, Rosetta was tired of bait fishing on another jetty, so I loaned her a spare blackie out fit that I brought along specially for her. After a few basic instructions, she was casting her float like a professional! She picked blackie fishing up 'just like that'!! She gave great attention to detail & did everything that was requested of her, after just the one lesson!! She even caught a couple of fish on her first outing (way better than my first ever blackie outing!) - the first whilst I was still there - but it connected with the brick wall whilst lifting it out & got off! I'd hooked a few little ones & one 'just legal' that I'd thrown back then a sudden 'down' & I am onto a beautie! I could see it was a good fish & reached round for the net, half lifting it out of the water ...... and it fell off! Bummer!! Keith had an appointment after mid day, so I had to hightail it home to take him there, so Pete & Rosetta continued fishing, going down to the Rock pool on the breakwall, finding a HOT catch there!! Rosetta caught &landed a beautie & Pete got a few as well, resulting in enough fish to make some famous Smoked Fish Pie! Many thanks for your good company, Pete & Rosetta & especially for the terrific fish & lovely salmon meatballs you cooked up from your Nine Mile Salmon!! Looking forward to seeing the recipe to use on my next sambo! Cheerio Roberta
james7
Looks like the three of you had a great time Roberta. Although, it's a shame about the couple of big ones you lost. It looks a lot more comfortable fishing Tuncurry rather than freezing yourself early morning on the beach! (Save beach fishing for the warmer months) Another great report. tide'n'knots
gday guys just got home and currently sitting in front of the computer with a welcome cup of coffee!!!!! Thanks for you great company as usual roberta and it was really great to catch up with Keith once again - rosetta and I were quite amazed at keiths great appetite after his operation - 3 plate fulls of food at the all you can eat buffet . I am sure Rosetta and i would have caught a lot more at the rock pool as we werent there very long when we had a double hookup then the dolphins came right in around our floats and spooked every fish for a country mile! Thanks for the weed stewy it really did the trick. Hey basil, I am off to south west rocks first thing in the morning - no rest for the wicked. Hopefully I will have a good report when I get home again on sunday night. pete. Edited July 12, 2011 by tide'n'knots
