Syten/Teleflex Helm Pumps

Hi Raiders.

This question may have been asked before as I believe its a common problem. The helm pump steering system on my Bertram has a small oil leak at the shaft.The pump is a Syten, made by Teleflex. Have any raiders had any experience with splitting the unit and replacing the seal? I ask because all the info I have found is that they are a discontinued pump and have to be replaced by a Seastar model, which means the whole system and that means $$$$$.

Dave, I don't think you need to buy the complete system. If you ring BLA they should be able to give you the answer, although you won't be able to buy direct from them - need to go through a dealer.

I only just today rang them re my Seastar hydraulic cylinder on the motor which I just bent !!!

Any way, I can just buy that part from them, but through a dealer.

Had a bit of a breakthrough today. I managed to split the so called unservicable, sealed unit. It was a bit tricky but now all i have to do is replace 2 o rings and an oil seal I think i might use a bit of sicaflex too. Hopefully that will sort out an otherwise expensive job.
