DTROJAN
Gday Raiders, I have spent a few days here and there over the last 2 weeks looking for fish from around towra and up to as far as picnic point ( in the boat). I must admit i have been a little surprised with the quality and numbers of fish I have encountered. Last thursday a bagged a nice whiting( along with a good mixed bag of bream and whiting) around lugarno measuring 44cm and weighing in at 650gr. I was pretty surprised today when i snagged a slightly bigger specimen near Tom uglies Bridge coming in at 45cm and 780gr. As far as i know that is probably a pb for me( since i started keeping records) so i thought i should share it with you guys and gals.

Keflapod
Hey Dtrojan, Well done on a nice catch of bream and whiting. That whiting is a real horse. What water temperatures are you recording in your catches ? Are you finding better results from como bridge upstream better that captain cooks into the bay? Are you burleying? What water depth do find the fish in? Deeper than 4m? I've been trying to get out there for weeks to works things out but family events, poor weather and illness has kept me away. I just hope I'm over my cold by next weekend and those predicted big southerlies don't blow us off the water... Tony

Tony Gday Tony, I havent really looked at the water temp, have been finding fish in different parts of the system on different tides. Dont usually burley and always try different depths until i locate the fish. Hope this helps.

I fish a lot with soft plastics during the summer and winter and no matter how hard i try i can never bag a whiting. I still to this day have not caught a legal whiting. after 2 summers fishing the flats of the hacking and botany bay, i still am yet to bag a legal one. The first time i fished with a blade i pulled 2 undersized ones in literally on the first two casts... I was so excited i called the tackle shop i bought them from to tell them how good the lures were. but since then. Nothing... Any ideas?

Mate, i wish i could tell you something that would help, but seeing as i very rarely use s.p's and catch most of my fish on bait the only info that could maybe help is to try the lower reaches of the river, maybe around the como area on the run out tide. There is usually whiting cruising the area looking for a feed on the runout, maybe you can entice one on a s.p or blade?
