macmac
Hi all, Does anyone know how to reduce the smoke come out from the outboard? Mine one is just too much. Its like the scenario that u fill diesel into the petrol engine but nothing wrong with the performance. Any solution will be appreciated. I got Johnson 2 stroke 90hp. Cheers, Phil
a boat
Hi Phil, apart from upgrading to a modern clean tech outboard there are a few things you want to make sure are right. On your V4 I would nothing but XD-100 oil, yes it will cost a bit more but it burns alot cleaner than cheap oil-so what oil are you using? Next you want to make sure the engine is not running cold and the thermos are doing their job and bringing that engine upto the correct temp-so I do hope you have the thermos still(I have lost count of the number of outboards of all brands that so called experts take thermos out of) and you need to confrim they are operating as designed. Finally and probably the most important, your OMS system needs to have solid fuel otherwise it runs a very oil rich mixtures and what causes this is a loose/leaking fuel system, so go over the complete fuel system from tank to engine and make sure all fittings are tight and they can not suck air, otherwise you will be over oiling and with cheap oil that blows alot of smoke. Check these things and get back to us because even though the modern clean tech engines are nice, there is not and never will be a more powerful 90HP made than the V4 Evinrude and Johnson. Cheers, Huey.
