Stickbait Outfit

Hi all,

I'm looking for an outfit for casting 5-9 inch stickbaits (slug-go's and gulp jerk shads) and poppers around the Sydney Harbour marker buoys. It has to be able to handle 70cm plus kings. I've got a 3-6kg rod and it just doesn't like casting those bigger plastics. My budget is about $400 for the rod and reel. I had in mind a 6-10kg stick paired with a 5000 or 6000 sized reel. This is what I've been looking at:

T-Curve Revoloution Offshore 702 SW Spin (2.13metres 5-10kg 10-40g)

Pflueger Trion SP722H (7ft2 6-10kg)

Shimano Spheros or Stradic.

Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated.

PS does anyone have a method of converting the Daiwa sizes to Shimano?

mate i've got the shimano mexican fire raider 762 snapper rod with a 4000 Sedona with 20lb fireline

its probably a little too weak for what your looking for - a big king would probably have me

but its casts 6" and 9" sluggos and gulps forever

you will have fun with the T-curve and any good size Stradic

I guess it depends on how you want to play the fish... I have a Stradic 4000 loaded with 20lb braid but I've upped the anty with carbontex drag washers. I use a shimano raider 4-7 kilo stick and can throw 6inch plastics all day. I've caught 70cm plus kings but it was in openish water and they were able to run a little... Maybe around the bouys you would need something bigger... I like fighting the fish and it works for me... I think the combo cost me bout 350 or so after the drag upgrade... Good luck!!!!

that's some decent drag for a 4 - 7kg rod?

Sedona 4000 has 9kg of drag straight out of the box?

Or does the carbontex offer a smother drag rather then chasing more drag pressure?

Yeah the smoother drag is what I was after. I can still wind it up a little more than standard but I dont make it to extreme.. Kind of defeats the purpose I think.
