rikkigilbey Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 just thought id share my excitement at catching my first blackie on my homemade floats. the water was murky after the recent rain, and havnt fished the harbour this murky before so was jubiuos as to whether i would get results, but it didnt bother me to much cause i was mainly there to test the floating action of my home made floats. clipped on 4 small shot weights onto my rig set up with the new float flicked it out, plop, 3, 4 seconds later it stood up beautifully. loved it. was a good evening to landing 8 in total. happy days. see how i made my floats here : http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=57229
luderick -angler Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Well done and its always goo to get a fish on your own floats as regards to murky I have caught them when itslike mud aroundd Cremorne and the Zoo wharf in the days you were allowed to fish of it due tto the extreme depth the fish will get down deep where the salt wedge is and feed! Its taken 30 odd years with Dad but theres not much I missed when he was teaching me even up to our last trip together the cunning old knew how to get a feed good on you for trying when you thought it would be dubious lesser men would have given up!

Keflapod Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 (edited) Well done Gilbey. The sense of accomplishment and satisfaction washes through you like a wave of green water doesn't it? You must really love your blackie fishing if you have made your own floats and even caught fish on them. Soon you will be making different styles for different conditions and spots. The creative side of you will have a field day, making the bits, assembling, painting and experimenting. What a good excuse to go fishing eh? "I just wanna try out my latest design....." Then you will also need to make your own sheet lead rectangular sinkers, then new fish recipes, and before you know it, you'll be the old man, just like your dad, knowing what he knows, but a whole lot more.... The kid fishing next to you will ask you questions, just the way you did when you were asking your dad. The world goes the full cycle, and we are swept along in it's tide. What a life we fishos have..... Tony Edited July 29, 2011 by Keflapod
