jenx Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Went fishing at the cooks river breakwall yesterday. Had a quick flick around the bridge with some small silver paddle tail soft plastics but got nothing. Also moved up and down the bank for a little while but didn't even get a bump. I've hit that spot many times and always returned with NADA...i think i'm going to give up fishing there and work on the georges or other spots in botany. Has anyone else been having any consistent luck lately? i know it's winter, but damn its hard fishing lately. cheers, Jenx

bagga Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Those breakwalls have to be fished at night or first light I reckon Jenx. One day last summer I got there about 8am and saw a guy on the southern wall with a good bucket of bream and trevally. I approached him to tell him what a good feed he had and down in the water he had 3 kingies tethered on a rope swimming around. I couldn't believe it! They were all legal, he said he caught them on pillies. I tried for an hour thinking they might still be around but got nothing. He caught them at first light about half way along the wall. A few days later the Daily Telegraph reported the kingies were taking lures at the Cooks River breakwall. So I wouldn't give up on the spot just yet. Runout tide at first light using those paddletails should work I reckon. They get jew there too I've heard.
aero.gard Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I flick there all the tome plenty of jewies and flathead. Fish the runout tide. Make shore it's really slow fish the tides nit the time
snag Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Try this head upriver till you get to the gold corse after tempe bridge and work your way down hitiing the bridges and on the run up tide, by the time you get parst tempe station im sure you will have a few nice ones.
mikefish Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 there are fishes up river, i caught three breams in an hour. one 33 cm. two of them around 27cm.good fight, especially now winter past so don't give up.
Meh Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 The Cooks has been pretty slow of late. Try blades in the deeper sections. BTW every time I read of people taking fish home from the Cooks I cringe a little. For your own benefit don't do it. With the pesticides and heavy metal levels that ARE present in fish from the Cooks you're asking for trouble.
idolz Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 (edited) I catch fresh fish outside, bring them back to Kyeemah boat ramp, gut and scale them on the ledge with birdshit there (why has the council not put in a even small cleaning table?) and wash them in the cooks river,,,,,,fresh fish out the door!!! hee hee Edited August 4, 2011 by idolz
