aeb870 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Hi Raiders, Finally I have decided to write up my first post on this site, and would really appreciate some help. Recently received a Shimano Curado 300E reel paired with a Shimano Raider Mexican Fire Baitcast 6'2"(6-10kg) for my birthday. Since this is my first baitcaster I am really struggling to select the right braid for the outfit. I plan to fish with lures and unweighted baits from the back of the boat, and my boat is only a small 13ft so would only be fishing close to the shoreline, Jervis Bay, Port Kembla, etc. Basically after Braid that casts well and really don't know how to choose. After reading various reviews I was leaning toward brands like Shimano Powerpro and Tuffline, purely on the fact that anglers have reviewed them as good braid for casting. I was looking at them in the 20lb range. Any thoughts would be much appreciated, as this is the first time I will be fishing with this type of outfit.
Catchin Jack Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Berkley Fireline & Fireline Tracer, Spiderwire Stealth Code Red are three I mainly use, haven't let me down yet. Just starting using Berkley Sensei Pro Grade PE, so far so good with it.
royts Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 I use 20lb Harro's bionic braid on a Curado 200 and it serves me very well. Nice casting, easy to see (hot pink), Australian owned (not certain if its made here) and I feel confident using it. I wouldn't use anything like fireline or spiderwire on a baitcaster because as I understand it, they are thermally fused rather than braided, this makes them stiffer and less of a round profile, which is great for spinning reels but not so good for baitcasters.
onearmedfisho Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Any ideas??? Mate i use 14LB Finns braid on my Curado 200E7 which i use for flicking plastics around but also a lot of squidding. Have no complaints....

I agree. I wouldn't use fireline on a bait caster. I've always used tuffline in 20lb on my bait casters for bass and salmon. No dramas at all with it.
aeb870 Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 Thanks for the advice, I might try some Tuf line since no one has tried powerpro.
