Hey fellas,

someone will know. i picked up a 2nd hand tinny the other day with 9.9 hp yam on it. i think when i left, the bloke didnt tilt the engine properly, somewhere on route home the engines come down straight and i basically snapped the small fin under the prop. its just a throw around tinny but will this affect the basic functions of the engine or can i get away with it. no damage to gearbox bit, just the fin or half of it. Also what material is this casing, it aint just metal as its got some powdery composite in it. cheers guys. pics abit small

Bummer mate, but i wouldnt blame the guy though. You should always check these things before you drive off. For a small outboard such as that have it tilted up and sit the weight of the engine back down onto a broom stick or sumthing, the bracket to hold the outboard up isnt rated to take the weight of a motor bouncing up and sown while being towed so use the broom stick and also strap the leg of the motor back down to the trailer so it cant bounce!

As for that fin, it will affect the way the the thing steers and the maouverability of the boat while under way. I have seen them break before and i have known of people getting them rewelded back on so it is possible. Not the end of the world but you wanna get that fixed.

Cheers
