Alright,

First Trip - Long Reef

Took Sunday off work to go out for a fish as I dont have much time left in Sydney with family and friends and hit up Long Reef in Prawn Star with my dad and good mate Luke. Got up nice and early and shot up the icy cold Parra into the harbour and out to long reef. We were lucky enough to get beautiful conditions offshore that day and had a smooth, quick run up the coast and started at Long Reef Wide. Here we managed a few nice mowies and a tiger flattie, kept drifting around for a bit but couldn't get anything else to bit as the wind picked up and we could no longer hold bottom.

So now its time to try in close amongst the ledge at longreef, we anchored up current of the drop off and sent a berly trail hard up against it and put some floaters out in hope of snapper, while they were drifting out nicely in the current my dad drops a whole squid down deep and guess what... looks like we berlyed up a school of rat kings... so we have some line peeling fun with these on light gear for an hour or so and manage to get one legal out of it which was a bonus as we didn't think there would be any in the school.

Anyway we start moving around looking for some more productive ground when we spot a boat waving at us with his engine cover off... so we go over to them and it looks like their motor has chucked it in, they ask for a tow back in so we do the right think and help them out, our boat was really struggeling and it took ages to get back in but they were very greatful in the end so we didn't mind. So that was the first trip, got a good feed and had an eventful day out. Now onto today...

Second Trip - Hawksbury

Decided to go out in lil' Prawn Star today and take my grandad as he's really into his fishing but doesen't often catch many fish, got to the ramp and motored around looking for some deep water to anchor up and put a berley trail out. Started fishing and it wasn't too long until pop brings up a good sized flatty to open the account, throughout the day we made plenty more deposits into that account and ended up with a very respectable bag of flathead ranging from 36cm - 52cm. My grandad had a great day out and I could tell how much fun he had when we got home and he couldn't stop telling everybody about the many stories of the day and about that massive one that got away which is actually the resident stingray that always comes back to give me a hard time LOL.

Today most of the fish taken were on prawns and not a single one on pilchard which is different. Oh and I must say a big THANKS to Garry L and Jenno64 for putting me onto those mustad wide gap hooks, they made a world of difference, I even landed undersized bream and tailor on them and didn't drop a single flattie :yahoo:

Top catch for the sessions, a good feed of flatties always goes down well and good work on lending a hand to the broken down boat..

That Berowra haul is impressive & frustrating.

Tried there on Monday, run in tide, for nothing.

Hardly lost a bait - not even the usual rays or catfish would take a prawn or squid. Berleyed hard with bread & pilchards & prawns.

Tried Sp's,HB's, even trolled a deep diving lure.

The water was weird - not running as you'd expect and there was a lot of floating debris from Calabash Bay to Berowra Point.

Glad you caught some. Anything at all would've done us.

Good stuff.

I would love to get your technics and spots in Berowra Creek :-)

It's really amazing stuff.

Maybe you get all the fish there and that's the reason why i never catch one....

Nice work and thanks again for the report!

Fantastic Haul on the Flatties mate!

Nice to hear of the generous gesture in helping out a troubled fisherman. Been in the situation and its a relief to get a helping hand.

Well done.
