Central Coast Fisherman Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 G'day Raiders, I'm going fishing out of swansea in my 15ft fibreglass boat on sunday weather permitting. As i have not fished out of swansea for many years, can anyone let me know where i can catch livies this time of year? Are there still yakkas or slimies around the bommie of Blacksmiths? Cheers, Phil
Noodles Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 There are plenty of yakkas on the bombie but slimeys are scarce. I got more than enough yellowtail in about 15 minutes last week. Some are pretty big though.
Catchin Jack Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Yup, still plenty of livies at that bommie, that's if it's the one out front of surf club you're talking about. You can also get livies around western side of Pulbah Island. They getting nice snapper around 30m to 50m mark and worth trolling around where ships anchored a few miles out.
Central Coast Fisherman Posted August 12, 2011 Author Posted August 12, 2011 Talk about a quick reply. Thanks guys. As this is my first time taking my boat offshore (only bought it 4 weeks ago), i'm not sure if i would be confident enough to go right out to where the ships are just yet. But just out of curiosity, what would i catch out there? Because i dont have a GPS on my boat yet, can anyone give me some advice on where to start fishing once i have my livies? I'd be fishing for snapper, mowies and i know its a long shot but i'd put a livie out on my big rod just incase theres any big winter kings around. Cheers, Phil
Catchin Jack Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Ok, around ships there's been tuna apparently. When you head out of Swansea, take a wide berth around island and head south, I usually take my time and troll down. There's snapper about, along reef just south of island, be careful of rogues there. Also off Catherine Hill Bay and further south. There is kingies still around, a friend got one near Lucy's Breakwall last week, there's been some decent sized ones around but most are rats. If you can use Blacksmiths boat ramp, nice new pontoon at ramp and so much easier to use now, just busy ramp. Good luck fishing and hope you get a nice feed.
Noodles Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 There are Flatties galore around the 50m mark which is out around the ships. Snapper and mowies along the reef strips in closer. Oh and don't forget leatherjackets. Taske plenty of gear. There are also tuna about.
