hey guys just wanting some advice about a new offshore reel.

seen the tyrnos 30 on sale for a good price but wondering if it would be overkill for what i am fishing for (mainly live baiting for kings, bottom bashing and trolling for small tuna etc) any advice would be great

Got the tyrnos 12 and love it. Perfect for livebaiting kings. Line capacity no good for tuna on this size. The 30 would be perfect for tuna but maybe a bit big for kings. Would certainly do the job though. Top reel with smooth lever drag an a strong body. Cheers Andrew.

yeah i thought it might be a bit big. i will probably use it more for trolling for tuna, even small marlin. i want to get into land based game up north aswell so thought it would be good matched to a 15kg 9ft rod. thanks for the advice, i was going to go for a TLD but the tyrnos seem to be alot stronger. would you say 15kg mono would be the better line to run for trolling and LBG?

I think 15kg would be perfect. 5 to 1 ratio is a bit on the highish side of ratio for tuna. If you want a 4 to 1 u need the 50 but it's 600 grams heavier and too heavy for LBG. Great reel and I think some come in a 2 speed. Might be worth a look.

i have a tyrnos 30 loaded with 15kg has caught marlin, kings etc and a few lbg blues. have since brought a tyrnos 16 also loaded with 8kg purely for lbg. they are a top reel, smoother drag curve then the tld, a 30 is a good around size. as for the 9ft lbg rod i would downsize to 8ft, your back will thank you.

thanks for the advice, really helpful. on looking back ill probably go for the 16 instead, 30 would be too big. i think i was just getting excited by gear on sale (as we all do) Went and had a play with one today...awesome! so smooth and would love to hear that ratchet screaming under pressure. now just i have just got to wait for my tax return to come back ;)
