mii11x
Been thinking of getting a new rod for launching say 6 inch hardodies to try and catch a jewie. I currently use my plastic rod, a raider II snapper light 4-7kg 2.21m(lure weight 7-21g) but feel as though i need a longer rod to assist casting. Anyone target jews on hardbodies???? what rod you using to target them with??? Any suggestions, oh yeah i will also be using a sol3000 or hearltand3000 reel with 10lb and 15lb braid respectively. Thanks Mick
eyevan
Hi Mick, I use hardbody lures for catching jewies, but i mainly do it off breakwalls and the rocks so my set up is quite heavy, I use Daiwa Saltist 9'6" rod 60lb rating rod matched with Shimano saragosa 14000 with 50lb line, Only reason i use this outfit is because i've lost several fish on lighter gear, but i can still cast a mile with that set up, Usually use Killalure Jewy 150 and a few different rapala's. Guessing you will be fishing off a boat and if you'll be using the Sol, I would probably match it with a TD SOL II rod or something similar. Hope this helps. Good Luck Mate Hey mate, Thanks for the reply (care to share your model number of the saltist rod), the rod/setup I have is rather light. I mainly use this setup with plastics on the boat for jews. Looking at now targeting them off wharfs, under bridges (georges river bridges) etc with ahrdbodies, so will be landbased. I guess I would be looking for something that would be able to be used off breakwalls (kembla etc) and landbased in rivers(georges, hawkesbury) so your setup gives me an idea of what i should be thinking of. Again many thanks for the reply if anyone else has ideas/setups they would be keen to share it would be much appreciated.
matt84
weapon of choice for alot of guys around my area for tossing big sp's, hard bodies, are the pacific composite bws 8 9ft 1pc (to get them built normally $200-300) plenty of power down low, beast of a rod and would be my pick. otherwise you have shimano classic shore spin, jewel, t-curve revolution, which all have 9ft models. eyevan
Hi Mick, The model of the rod is Daiwa Saltist SAA-B 962HRS 60lb rating, Got it on special a while back for about $150 i think it was. Hope this helps mate. Good Luck,
gonfishing
Hi Mick, 6 years ago I used to live up the coast, picked a second hand rod for $70 not sure what rating it was. But it was a 9" carbon composite custom made. I only used it along the break wall, matched with my daiwa certate 4000 with 50lb braid. Caught many jews on it, but the best one on plastic was a 22kg speciment just 3 meters off my feet. The reel struggled a bit but the rod could have taken a bit more. The unfortunate thing was when I moved back to Sydney, some low life pinched my combo off my ute :ranting2: Anyway, back to your query. My suggestion is that a 9" rod is a must and i'll probably go a bit bigger on the reel as i've lost many good fish on my daiwa sol 3000. Going for jewfish, you have to be prepared that fish of a life time. My theory on jewfish fishing is that every thing's got to be perfect including your knots. If it's not perfect, do it again. Hope you can find what you're looking for. Tight line

Tight line hi gonefishing, thanks for your input, i pretty sure ive found the rod....a silstar crystal blue 10 foot rod, pretty sure the line weight was 6-10kg and the cast weight 20-70grams-ish. i will upgrade the reel to a 5000 size reel possibly 6000 but for the meantime was thinking of using the heartland 3000. just dont want a overly heavy reel. again thanks for your input

Ribs
Hi Mick/Raiders, i am having difficulty deciding the same thing, i "thought" i needed a Nitro Magnumm butt 5-9kg 7'6 9-40g (already have the 1-3kg finesse and are great rods)and want to team it up with a Daiwa Seagate 3500 or Daiwa Caldia 4000 ...lightest i can find in that class......but after reading this post i dont know what to do......like you i want to cast big blades, plastics, hb's searching for jew in the georges landbased on rock walls...i also want to use it for snapper/kings on a mates boat outside hence why i dont want an overly long rod....but the mrs has given the green light to 1 more combo and i want to get it right..are you happy with your 10"? any thoughts appreciated gents... matt84
Nitro Magnumm butt 5-9kg 7'6 9-40g and Daiwa Seagate 3500 or Daiwa Caldia 4000, loaded with 20lb braid sounds like a sik combo to me, perfect for lb on smaller wall, bridges, jettys etc and not too heavy for plastic for flatty, spinning tailor, scumbos, rat etc. if you were purely fishing larger breakwall then 10ft would be better, to get the line away from those bottom rocks. But if you are after a serious no questions asked brute stick for breakwalls and heavy structure, pure jew spinning stick, like my post said before go a pacific composite bws 8 or bws 10 with 30-50lb braid, some shops may have them or can get them build for around $300. they are a weapon of a rod, wont get much better. Having said you fish mostly the georges/estuary your not likely to come across massive jew in tight county so i would personally stick with your gut and go the nitro, will be much more enjoyable to use, and much better responds flicking sp's then a 10ft rod. Hi mate, The rod i purchased after checking out a few was a t curve revolution 9ft model. I have numerous t curves and really like the feel of these rods. have taken it out on a few outings, along with some 20-30gram hardbody rapala's. i really thought id be able to cast them a little further than i do but overall i am happy with the rod. I started off using my heartland 3000 but the seat when wound all the way only just captures the reel so instead i have mated it with my saltiga surf 6000. Am thinking though a 4000 - 5000 size would suit it better. Now all i have to do is get it loaded up to give it a test. If your keen to check it out pm me and ill meet up with you at the georges/wonnie one evening. Cheers Mick
