Fishing Port Douglas - Please help

Hey Riaders,

Im going to port douglas at the end of the year and i cannot wait. I am so keen to jump on a few charter boats to hit the rivers and also the big blue water for some black marlin and reef species.

Im going with my missus so im in some serious negotiations right now around how much time i can spend fishing in ratio with how much time i have to spend with her (NOT fishing).

She has agreed to do a half day charter but i cant fit all that fishing in half a day its just insane.

So shes not to happy with being on a boat as she gets sick, so i was thinking, some of those game fishing boats are very nice and she can chill out inside or sunbake or something.

My question is, do you guys know of any good charter operations that run full day and are in a nice boat. Might sound like a stupid question but i want to do a full day! lol

Thanks Raiders,

Predator

from past experience, alot... and i mean 99%, of the reef around cairns / port douglas is restricted and charter boats only have a few small areas they can go reef fishing. These areas arent close so a half day may be out of the question unless you find a charter for the river / estuaries

also generally speaking, big game (marlin) and bottom bashing dont go together. The costs are similar overall but there are way fewer people on a game boat therefore it will cost you more

your missus sounds like mine - drag her along only to have her sit in the sun looking pretty.

The charter i went on had a big boat (helps with the seasickness), had a top deck with seats / lounges, a bar and toliet, TV etc. Actually i chose it more for her than me. They mainly reef fish with handlines but if you hang out at the back of the boat they put out some rods as well. I still had a great time and managed a big spanish Mack using one of the livies we caught from bottom bashing.

ill PM you the details

(PS: dont knock hand lines - its a whole different experience bringing in a 10kg trev via hand line !)
