I have a 5 metre glass, had a 15 hp on it, wayyy too heavy and longshaft it drags in the water, had to get rid of it. yeah 6 to 8 might be slow but its just to get out of trouble isnt it back to the ramp and put back. or just ditch and auxilary and join seatow ( nrma on water ) . I didnt join them myself but only because they dont service the south coast.
Catchin Jack
I'd also suggest a 6hp, had one on a 6m fiberglass boat and it pushed it along just fine.

a boat
Hi, 6HP would be ideal but I would also consider a 5HP due to having the internal fuel tank so no need to carry another fuel tank on board and most issues nowdays can be fuel related so having an aux that has its own in built fuel supply is a bonus and a 5HP would push a 5M alloy console around fine. Some good prices on Vortex engines at present and this brand allow you to get a new outboard with 3 year warranty for what some people want for second hand engines. I also have a very good condition 8HP (same engine/weight as the 6HP) L/S Evinrude that is a twin cylinder fuly rubber mounted so veyr smooth and very powerful. Cheers, Huey.
