greg123
Ok so I've read many opinions on the web about somehow converting NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183. I bought a Lowrance Elite-5 6 months ago thinking I wouldn't need the NMEA connections other than for DSC and the unit came with Navionics gold so I went for it. Anyway now I'd like to install a fuel flow sensor like the Lowarnce EP-60 (I think that's what it's called). The problem is that this unit uses NMEA2000. Obviously I'd like to display it's data on my plotter so that I don't have to go and buy one of their multi-function gauges (such as the LMF-200). So my question is: Is there some sort of converter I can buy that will convert the NMEA 2000 data from various electronic sensors into a readable NMEA0183 data format for my plotter? Or should I just get the Lowrance multifunction gauge for $230? Cheers
oz_brett
What about going the other way, is it possable to upgrade the lawrance elite to NMEA2000 with a software upgrade? Brett

tuffy
Why don't you just ring the distributors, Navico, at Lane Cove. The number is in White Pages and they are very helpful. Save a lot of guessed answers. Tuffy
framedtrash
EP-60 will only work on a NMEA 2000 network if you boat does not have a NMEA 2000 network you will need to buy the starter network kit and create one very easy to do and only costs around $60 i dont think you can connect up a 183 device and read data from a 2000 network but as you said you can use the lowrance multifunction gauge like the LMF-200 which is a nmea 2000 device and this will work with the EP-60 but you will still need to have a NMEA 2000 network setup before they can talk to each other its all very easy to setup and there is no mess of wires like what you would have if you have to wire up a 0183 network its all plug and play Edited August 24, 2011 by Framedtrash
