paddy69
Headed out yesterday morning with PredAtor (AKA Stan). Anyway I get to the ramp at Kyeemagh a little early to launch the boat. I was pretty excited as the weather was looking good and I thought that after my Fishing School experience I may be able to show Stan a great day on the bay...... I put the boat in - no dramas. Park the car - no worries - get back to the boat - all good. Move the boat to allow others to launch - nice and polite. The only problem – why is there water lapping at my shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forgot to put the BUNGS IN! Panic hits. I beach the boat and scramble for the bungs put them in and the boat is still floating. But I am in a mad panic - completely freaked out! Then Stan arrives - cool calm and collected.....tells me its AOK "we have all done it" .....but that doesn't help - I am in foetal position sucking my thumb, rocking back and forwards and calling for "MOTHER" …. Finally, with the help of Stan the boat is on the trailer, the water is empting out and calm sets in. A short time later and we launch the boat mark 2 and this time Bungs are in and done up nice and tight....and we are off, for what should be a great day. One hour passes no fish...that’s ok. Two hours o dear, three hours passes....O MY GOD I AM JINXED! Finally we hit a school of slimeys and yakkas and just have a bit of fun pulling them up and throwing them back.....Then we head orf to the oil wharf where we run into a bloke (not literally) who helped at the ramp and he says we should go for a flattie drift....and he comes decides to come a long for the ride. We drift and fish.....the other boat is onto fish in a minute..... we are still a big fat Doughnut! Then our new friend in the other boat suggests that we should head outside and down to the light house.....once again he is on with in minutes .Stan and I get tangled and we decide after seven hours its been fun, its been interesting but its time to head in…. No fish but a great day on the bay!
The Incredible Hull
Yep most likely most boat owners have left the bungs out. I've had my boat for about 5 months now, I think I left my bungs out on the 2nd launch - which makes sense cause you'll clean the boat after the first outing and leave the bungs out! =P Keep going as much as you can, to get ready for spring/summer which is around the corner

JimT
...not having any boat experience but if you forget to put bungs in and have a bit of water on board if you put the boat up on the plane won't the water run out then put bungs in before you slow/stop? Jim........
Pongrass18ft
Easy done leaving the bung out , I bet you make that your first priority on your next trip. I had the whole bung and socket fall out a few years back in an old boat i had while fishing in the georges river now thats panic time i ran the bildge pump and got back to the ramp ASAP couldn't believe what i saw.Put a new socket and bung in with sicaflex plus the screws , easy fix but yes you do panic. Fishing can only get better in the coming weeks guys spring is here as of thursday chris.

Jim........ Tried to do that before on a jet boat. Not as easy as it sounds hanging over the back of a boat at 20 knots is pretty scary but it does work. stricko4
Hey Paddy, Next time you come across a school of yakka & slimeys like that stick a big hook in one & drop it over as a livie. You never know what's lurking under the school. You might just get lucky. Kingys
mulcahya
Yep. I've left the bungs out too! But fortunately I noticed before I detached the boat from the trailer so I just drove out, let it drain, put them in, and relaunched. Phew! Now I've trained my six year old son to always ask me before we put the boat in if we've got the bungs in. That said, I frequently forget the plug for the live bait tank, which only fills when you're driving. Drive for a couple of minutes with the plug out and if gets seriously wet back there. Thank god I installed an electric bilge pump. Seems like every time I go out, I have some sort of new incident, varying from the trivial, to the down right stupid. Last week I didn't take down the rods from rocket launcher after loading it on the trailer and the lines got stuck in a tree overhanging the road whilst driving off......left a lot of terminal gear up there! LOL this is classic, did your reels get spooled from the tree? Mate im sure we have all been there, ive done some pretty dumb things on my first boat mostly things you just forget to do, but you learn from them. Now when i launch my boat (and im sure everyone has this aswell) i have a full game plan.

Now when i launch my boat (and im sure everyone has this aswell) i have a full game plan. Fortunately not. I noticed it pretty quickly, stopped and hauled down as much as I could. Felt like a goose cause I blocked the road whilst wrestling the stuff down. Thought it was funny later though. I just can imaging someone walking under the tree one day and having a squid jig drop on their head and wondering where the hell it came from. If that happens to you, you'll know who to call. http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/public/style_emoticons/default/074.gif Roger that on the game plan. Good idea! I got a check list for the gear.....just need to expand it a little and never rush the process. That's when mistakes happen.
