Benzeenees
John and I fished the area around Moruya Heads for our most successful result to date. Left Mossy Point about 6.30am and headed straight out to the 70m mark. We were unable to find any fish so we decided to troll south. Picked up one nice bonito which we immediately bled so that it was suitable for eating. On the way south we encountered a big pod of dolphins and a couple of humpbacks. Fished off Moruya Heads for no result other than a few nannygai which we returned to the water. Then moved to another reef in 70m and caught 7 smallish to medium morwongs. Headed in to 50m and south a few km looking for flathead. No luck. Saw a local charter boat fishing in 40m off the beach about 3 km south of the Heads so decided to give that a try. One just legal flathead was the result. On our way home we thought we'd give the flathead another try. Bingo - 9 BIG flathead and a pan sized snapper in 30 minutes. And then on the way back to the ramp we saw more marine mammals and as a bonus picked up 5 more bonito! Lots of quiet time interspersed with some great fishing. And whales, dolphins and seals. Despite being a bit dubious about eating bonito, we filleted one, removed the skin and bloodline and then deep fried it in batter. It was very good. We'll still use some for bait (a half fillet sells for $6 at the bait place) but we will try it again. Perhaps smoked. Benzeenees
BTW, I forgot to mention that the water temperature was around 17C at 40m and 17.6C at 70m. Quite warm compared with last year. Probably explains the kingfish John caught 2 weeks ago.

Benzeenees
What do you call BIG flathead? 45+cm - that's big for a sand flathead or southern blue spot.
