Leatherjackets

I want to target and catch leatherjackets. I will be fishing inshore i.e. from jettys and wharves.(land based)

I have had limited success using my blackfish outfit using a long shank hook and "pushing" the bait right up the hook to expose the tip. But I am keen to hear what other rigs people use. Do you use berley? What bait? How deep do you fish for them etc

I am Umina beach based and have lately been fishing Wagstaffe wharf where the ferry comes in but if anyone has any spots they would like to share with me, I wouldn't argue

mate, peeled prawn on a size 2 longshank with a small sinker tied about 20cm away from the hook. This rig subdues many leatherjackets form wharves for me.
